JOB SUMMARY: This position is for an Intern to join a cohort of other interns to rotate through and support Forbright Bank’s Healthcare Lending Division. Interns will rotate between the Healthcare Lending departments to include Underwriting, Portfolio Management, HUD Lending and the Diligence team to gain a diverse experience of the entire lending cycle the bank has to offer. Interns will participate in several events including Excel training, branch tours, leading and presenting a Capstone Project to the bank, lunch and learns, and mentoring high school students during Forbright Bank’s Sustainable Solution Summit.
Please note that this internship is for current juniors who will be rising seniors in Summer 2025. This position is an 8 week, 32 hours/week internship located in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Interns are expected to work in the office Monday through Thursday, with Friday’s off. The internship has an estimated start date of June 2, 2025.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform industry research to understand macro trends that impact a company and the competitive environment that it operates in
- Aid the underwriting team in the due diligence process for loans
- Assist in populating our internal system with all pertinent information on an opportunity
- Assist in the management of credit risk, ensuring that asset quality remains strong, and executing strategies to limit the risk of loss
- Help manage day-to-day borrowing activity of assigned asset-backed loan (ABL) investments
- Perform financial analysis and projections by tracking the trends and developments that may impact loan performance under various economic scenarios
- Aid the underwriting team in the due diligence process for both ABL’s and term loans
- Support the HUD Lending Team, specifically the approved underwriter and the assigned processor for HUD transactions
- Help review transactions, including the detailed review of third-party reports associated with each transaction type
- Work with the assigned underwriter to learn about underwriting issues and risks upfront
- Diligence consists of performing testing and analysis surrounding collateral, financial performance, collateral risk offset review, adherence to loan documents and ad hoc analysis to aid the portfolio management and underwriting teams in their decision-making process
- This will provide an opportunity to assist the Healthcare Lending Diligence team while gaining exposure to the recurring and pre-loan diligence process on existing and prospective Borrowers. The diligence group works in coordination with Company / Borrower Management (Management) and key contacts as well as coordinates requests from the portfolio and underwriting team
- Participate in weekly Team-Wide Portfolio Management Meetings
- Complete capstone project with Intern cohort to present to senior leadership
- Participate in Summer Lunch-and-Learn Series across lending platforms
- Complete additional portfolio and underwriting analysis/projects on an ad hoc basis
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently a junior pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year accredited institution
- Strong financial statement analysis skills
- High proficiency with Excel based modeling and other Microsoft Office products
- Acute attention to detail with the ability to think critically and independently
- Exceptional attitude and commitment to teamwork
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Well-developed organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and prioritize work
