Ignite Achievement Academy is a private, accredited school serving Charlotte, NC students in grades K-12 with special needs and learning differences.

As a Teaching Assistant working in our life-skills (FLAME) program, you will work alongside the classroom teacher to support each child’s individual instructional plan and accompany the class off-site 4-5 days a week as they work in the community. On campus, the Teaching Assistant assists the teacher throughout the day with differentiated instruction and one-on-one student support. The typical hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 9AM – 3PM on all school days.

This position may, at times, be responsible for driving students in the school’s 15-passenger van.

The Teaching Assistant will deliver supportive instruction aligning to the student’s instructional plan, collect data, observe students responses, and work closely with assigned students in small-groups and/or one-on-one. Training is provided in advance of the school year to ensure Teaching Assistants are equipped with the tools and skills necessary to excel in this position.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree;
  • Possess a passionate belief that all students are capable of success and learn in unique ways;
  • Possess the desire to work 1-on-1 and in small groups with students to ensure instruction is appropriate for their individualized needs;
  • Possess the ability to build rapport with both the student and the parent in a collaborative environment;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to establish a strong and supportive relationship with each assigned student;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license;
  • Ability to pass a traditional background check and a motor vehicle driver’s background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Classroom experience (teaching or assisting);
  • Teacher certification

This is an hourly position offering a competitive wage for Teaching Assistants, dependent upon the candidate’s skills and experience.
