POSITION SUMMARY:
The Pscyhologist Intern shall be a trained professional, under the supervision of a licensed school Psychologist, that provides student assessment and guidance, identifies developmental, learning and behavioral needs of students. Utilize the information gleaned to determine optimal support or guidance for the students and review with supervising Psychologist prior to implementation, when needed or required. Collaborate with teachers, involved staff, and parent/guardian regarding steps to improve the development of the students as they move toward adulthood. Design and implement research-based programs and interventions to assure students are receiving the most up to date and proven techniques. Act as liaison between students, teachers, involved staff and parent/guardians. Advocate for homeless youth and families to ensure their rights under Title X are followed. Complete paperwork and follow district and state procedures for the Individual Education Plans (IEP) including, but not limited to: referral paperwork, assessment evaluation, conduct appropriate assessments, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in determining eligibility, make placement decisions and produce a comprehensive IEP. Attend weekly meetings to review the progress of the internship with the supervising Psychologist. Develop and promote good community relations among stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create a positive environment and effective management structures to purposefully promote and foster effective student achievement. Create a safe environment that establishes routines and provides for student engagement through questioning, speculation, and originality. Promote an environment respecting the dignity of the student. Ensure all processes, procedures and data collection are highly organized and effective with optimal use of time. Motivate, engage and empower all students.
Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure team understanding of student performance strengths and needs, through evaluation, educational program planning, and service delivery. Evaluate the student’s ability and formulates the student’s profile through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews. Synthesize evaluation results into a comprehensive written report, which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment; directs program development; and guides evidence-based intervention. Develop intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals. Assure IEP paperwork is accurately and comprehensively completed. Perform, at times, as the Director Designee in IEP meetings.
Design, develop and provide targeted, evidence-based interventions to facilitate student performance within the school environment. Consult with the school-based team to achieve student outcomes. Collaborate with educators from other grades or subject areas to establish links between disciplines. Demonstrate mastery of content. Suggest and demonstrate strategies and techniques that are relevant to students and applicable to the real world. Integrate and align objectives, strategies, activities, materials, resources, assessments and differentiate based on individual student needs. Use data management tools to analyze results and draw inferences from data to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
Teach, monitor, and collaborate with educational personnel, community agencies, parent/guardian, and students to increase understanding of the student’s needs. Provide continuing education and in-services for educational personnel, parents, and community based service providers.
Provide quality, accurate, constructive, corrective, specific and timely feedback to students that encourages them to perform at their highest level. Effectively communicate with parents and staff about student’s progress and opportunities. Utilize technology and/or other avenues to communicate to stakeholders (website, podcasts, etc.).
Actively participate in continuing education for professional development to ensure practice consistent with best practice and to meet Colorado Licensure requirements. Use professional literature; evidence based research, and continuing education content to make practice decisions. Use professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision-making in practice.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Possible supervision of support personnel.
Conduct supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, training/development, assign and direct work, performance feedback, address complaints and resolve problems.
BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently.
Manage and maintain inventory of equipment and assessments.
Project needs for budget planning.
Maintain clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.
Review services for improvements and make changes as needed to ensure quality of services.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
Bilingual (preferred).
Bachelor’s degree.
Enrolled in approved program of preparation for a special services provider that requires internship.
University approval of internship.
English fluency will be determined through the application and interview process.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
Valid CDE Intern Authorization with School Psychologist endorsement.

SALARY:
$20,000 per year.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
New hires or rehires will be responsible for the fingerprint processing fee required for background checks through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
