  • Supervises the shift activities of the nursing department assuring those established procedures and standards are followed promptly, efficiently, and with accuracy.
  • Continually evaluates and adjusts patient care, staff relations, and general floor service to maintain optimal functioning.
  • This position requires ongoing inspection of the physical condition of the nursing department and its equipment to ensure prompt maintenance or repairs as needed.
  • Assists in the interpretation and implementation of hospital policies to all nursing staff on any scheduled shift. 
  • Analyzes and resolves worker and work problems of the shift, and suggests to the Director of Nursing plans to motivate staff.
  • Assists in the training and orientation of staff, assuring all staff has the necessary equipment and supplies to perform the work of their shift. 
  • Provides direct patient care in accordance with facility and department policies and procedures.  Actions are to be consistent with currently accepted standards of practice.  Nursing activities also include assisting in the implementation of regimens established by other health disciplines.
  • This position formulates and implements a formal discharge plan based on patient needs, goals, and available resources.
  • Makes staffing adjustments as necessary to meet patient care needs while remaining supportive to departmental budgetary goals. 
  • This position evaluates staff members’ training, orientation needs, and works to fulfill those needs.  He/she may also perform specialized supervisory or patient care activities as determined by the needs of the nursing unit.
  • Makes regular rounds to observe patient condition and vital signs, to assess findings, plan patient nursing care, and to record pertinent information. 
  • Assists with all aspects of patient care as the need arises. This includes: (1) preparing, administering, and charting medication and treatments according to physicians’ orders and established procedures, (2) administering routine, scheduled, and emergency nursing treatments according to physicians’ orders, and (3) assisting with daily living care of the patients
  • This position conducts orientation for new patients and their families and notifies family members, physicians, and other appropriate individuals according to established procedure when there are changes in patient conditions.
  • Participates in committees, meetings, in-services, and workshops as requested or required.



Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • Passed NCLEX Exam
  • BLS Certification
  • Must have 2-3 years of nursing experience
