Position Summary

The Center for Academic Excellence & Leadership Development (CAELD) under the Honors College is accepting applications for a Professional Intern. This position will work closely with the Director of CAELD to coordinate national and international scholarships and fellowships and support the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF) program. The position will assist with recruitment efforts, manage application and selection processes for various scholarships and fellowships, and provide individual advisement to potential applicants. This position also supports the operations of the MMUF program by assisting with activities and events.

This position, in support of the University’s enrollment, retention, and graduation goals provides integrated support for the CAELD program with specific needs to navigate and succeed within higher education. The ideal candidate will assist higher-level student success personnel in the development and delivery of outreach and retention programs. Receives guidance, training, and mentorship from the CAELD Director as it relates to understanding and meeting the unique needs of the population of interest.

Additionally, the Professional Intern will be part of the Honors College administration team, collaborating with Honors staff and faculty to meet the college’s needs. This position reports to the CAELD Director.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must present transcripts prior to a formal offer being extended.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University’s influenza vaccination requirement.
  • This is a fixed-term position, typically up to 24 months.
Minimum Qualifications

Must have obtained a Bachelor’s or higher level degree no more than 24 months prior to the date of hire OR if the Bachelor’s (or higher level) degree was obtained more than 24 months prior to the date of hire, the individual must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s (or higher level) degree program; no previous work experience required.

  • Strong listening, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize educational programs, meetings and/or special events.
  • Experience working with undergraduate students in higher education settings.
