Are you passionate about ensuring the structural integrity of construction projects through expert welding inspections? S&ME is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our non-destructive testing and evaluations (NDT/NDE) team in Charlotte, NC.

About The Role:

As an Certified Welding Inspector, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and integrity of our construction projects. This role is ideal for seasoned professionals ready to take on new challenges and responsibilities in the field of non-destructive testing and evaluation.

In this role, you will perform advanced non-destructive tests and evaluations on various construction materials and structures, utilizing state-of-the-art technology to detect defects and irregularities. You will collaborate with our skilled engineering team to accurately interpret and report findings, while ensuring adherence to industry standards and safety protocols. Additionally, you will coordinate and manage testing assignments, maintain testing equipment, and conduct fieldwork, which includes safely climbing steel structures such as buildings, cell phone towers, and water tanks up to heights exceeding 200 feet. Your work will culminate in creating detailed reports to effectively communicate your findings, contributing to informed decision-making and project excellence.

Position will require 50+ hour work weeks (during periods of peak workload), as well as off-shift and weekend work, as required.

About You:

  • A High School Diploma/GED
  • At least 2 years of NDT/NDE metals testing experience or an associate degree
  • An AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
  • Achievement in ASNT Level II certification per ASNT-SNT-TC-1A in at least one method
  • Safety, DDC, NDT, and Radiation Training
  • Experience in the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems
  • Additional certifications, a plus:
    • ICC certification in Building Inspections and/or Structural Steel Inspection
    • Level II for UT certification
    • Level II for PT, MT certifications

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

  • Ability to climb heights over 200 feet
  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
