2025 LPRO Internship
Oregon’s nonpartisan Legislative Policy and Research Office (LPRO) is seeking two graduate students to participate in an exciting internship program for the 2025 Legislative Session. Graduate students studying public policy, law, or a related topic and motivated to learn about the legislative process in Oregon are encouraged to apply.
About the opportunity:
The internship begins January 6, 2025, and ends at the conclusion of the 2025 legislative session. Interns are expected to work 30 hours per week in Salem.
The work assigned to the intern will offer learning in committee organization and administration; bill management; research; communication; and other internal LPRO projects. The intern will work collaboratively with colleagues and be assigned a mentor, both of which are designed to provide professional growth and networking opportunities.
About the office:
Our mission in LPRO is to provide professional nonpartisan staffing, analysis, and research that supports and informs the policymaking process. Our highest priority is to ensure that Oregon’s legislature has access to relevant and timely information on public policy issues of interest to the state.
The ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate for this position will be familiar with Oregon’s state government structure, eager to learn, and interested in pursuing a career in public policy. They will enjoy working with people, be flexible and nimble in the face of change, and be able to serve people with different perspectives and goals. The ideal candidate will be well organized, able to exercise independent judgment and discretion, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree (four-year college or university), AND,
- Be a current graduate student of a Master’s, Ph.D., J.D., or professional program in public policy, public administration, law, or a related field
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Strong desire to learn the legislative process through hands-on experience

The successful candidate for the LPRO Internship will have the following at the start of the internship:

- One or more public policy issue areas relevant to Oregon
- Oregon’s governance structure

- Computer applications, including the Microsoft suite
- Organizing work and keeping track of multiple complex assignments

- Actively engage in the development of the intern experience

- Communicate effectively and professionally orally and in writing

SPECIAL INFORMATION:
- Over the next two years, the Capitol Building will be undergoing extensive renovation and construction projects which may limit accessibility to employees. This will require Legislative employees to work both from home and within the building as the construction project dictates. While working from home, personal, stable and high-speed internet access will be required to perform the functions of this position. There may be occasions that require employees scheduled to be working from home, to report to the Capitol or an offsite building. Every effort will be made to provide reasonable notice. However, employees may be required to report to the building under short notice. The Capitol building is located at 900 Court Street NE, Salem, OR 97301.
