Description
Charlotte Latin School is looking for a passionate, dynamic, and creative individual to join our World Languages team as an elementary World Languages teacher. This is a full-time, 10-month position starting in August 2025, in which you will have the opportunity to inspire young learners in a communicative, proficiency-based FLES (Foreign Language in Elementary Schools) program. Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in French or Spanish is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience teaching French or Spanish, at an elementary level, is required. The ability to teach French and Spanish, at an elementary level, is desired.
- Understanding of ACTFL proficiency standards and how they apply to language acquisition.
- Experience in an independent school setting is preferred.
Skills:
- Cultivate a love for world languages and culture, fostering curiosity and excitement in every lesson.
- Inspire students to communicate confidently in a world language through all three modes: interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational, with a focus on the real-world value of using Spanish in daily life.
- Utilize methods of Comprehensible Input and/or Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) to engage students in authentic communication beginning at the novice level
- Integrate technology creatively into the classroom to enhance learning and assess student progress; Possess a strong proficiency in Google Workspace.
- Exhibit a love of working with children in this age group
- Demonstrate strong classroom management skills, while upholding a commitment to safety and civility.
- Actively engage in the life of the school community, participating in extracurricular activities and school events.
- Maintain excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Collaborate closely with colleagues, displaying flexibility and a willingness to share classroom resources and space.
- Build meaningful relationships with students, colleagues, and families, contributing to a supportive and thriving learning community.
- Adhere to the highest level of professionalism

Working Conditions and Environment
- Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.
- Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity.
- Frequently talk and hear.
- Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs, step stools and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders.
- Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor heat and cold temperatures.
- Long or odd hours, as needed.
