Moore & Van Allen PLLC, a dynamic and fast-growing full-service law firm of more than 400 attorneys and professionals, is seeking a Legal Research Specialist to join its Charlotte, NC office. This full-time position provides is responsible for conducting high-level legal, market, industry, client, and competitive research, maintaining and curating research guides, and ensuring that the firm’s information resources are current and effectively managed. This role involves overseeing the delivery of current awareness information, administering electronic subscriptions, troubleshooting vendor issues, and maintaining critical databases and firm accounts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Research and Inquiry Support:
- Conduct high-level legal, market, industry, client, and competitive research across various levels of inquiry and complexity.
- Provides analysis and synthesis of research results and presents findings in a manner promoting effective decision making where appropriate.
- Fulfill research requests submitted through Quest or email, maintaining a detailed log of all requests and completions.
- Review and troubleshoot vendor issues, ensuring timely resolution.
- Performs orientation and onboarding for new attorneys and staff.
Resource Management and Maintenance:
- Develop and maintain subject area and company research guides (Libguides/Intranet Databases).
- Audit Libguides, alerts, and circulation materials regularly to ensure accuracy and relevancy.
- Maintain and update NC efile and PACER firm accounts, ensuring compliance and accessibility.
- Administer and distribute electronic subscriptions, ensuring recipients receive properly focused materials.
- Stay current with trends in the law library industry, recommending upgrades and software changes as appropriate.
- Communication and Current Awareness:
- Curate and disseminate newsletters, focusing on key legal and market developments.
- Assist in the selection and delivery of current awareness information through RSS feeds, alerts, and other mediums.
- Communicate effectively with attorneys and staff to ensure that information resources meet their needs.
- Employs reference interview skills in order to clarify and interpret research requests.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Regular and in-person attendance is required to perform the essential functions of this interactive position.
- Willing to work after normal business hours and or weekends when required.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in and 3 years’ experience in a corporate library; Master’s degree in Library Science preferred.
- Experience with electronic resource management and current awareness tools.
- Experience with TRG’s Quest request management system, LibGuides and InfoNgen’s current awareness platform are preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- The work is primarily sedentary.
- It requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
- The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
- The work at times requires bending, squatting, and reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull light weights.
