Job Title: International Scout
Department: Basketball Operations/Scouting
Reports to: Director of Scouting
*This job is a consultant for someone who is based outside of the United Sates.
Position Summary: The main responsibility of the International Scout is to evaluate prospective talent. This position is required to attend assigned games and take comprehensive notes to determine if prospective players are talented enough to draft, play for the NBA, or play for the G-league. These notes inform each scouting report required for submission post-game. It is also required to participate in Lakers scouting meetings and calls, which are organized throughout the year.
Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities listed chronologically):
· Participate in Training Camp Scout Meeting
o Discuss college schedule, top prospects, and receive Fall scouting assignments
· Scout all assigned preseason or regular college games
o Take notes at each game (using a tablet or blue card)
o Expand on notes and submit scouting report post-game to Basketball Ops Assistant
· Reconvene with scouting department in January
o Reassess list of prospects
o Receive Winter/Spring scouting assignments
· Scout assigned March madness games and NCAA brackets
· Scout pre-draft camps
· Scout pre-draft workouts (either agent workouts across the country or Lakers workouts)
· Travel to Los Angeles to provide input for NBA Draft
o Analyze all eligible, prospective players and develop a ranked list of top 60 players
· Attend NBA summer league games
· Keep abreast of news and injuries for elite, up-and-coming players
· Constantly review ESPN and other statistical resources
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree preferred
· NCAA connections/insights required
· NBA or college playing experience preferred
· Fluent in English and French or Spanish preferred
· Passport that allows travel to every country (without a visa)
Qualifications:
· Highly skilled in player talent evaluation and future projection
· Familiar with stats, analytics and other player metrics
· Experience as a scout, coach, team executive, player, agent or journalist
· Good networking with clubs executives, coaches, agents and media
· Able to work independently organizing trips while working with scouting department
· Must have availability for continuous travel
The pay range for this role is $90,000 to $95,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and certifications
