BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Duties and responsibilities of the Re-entry Education Counselor is to provide instruction and guidance with an emphasis on eliminating barriers that impedes the individual�s success in the community and reduce recidivism rate. The Re-entry Education Counselor will implement, and deliver educational programs for detainees that advises and teaches students in a variety of subjects to address the criteria of Adult Education High School Equivalency curricula, job readiness, and interpersonal skills to eliminate barriers for their personal success in the community. The Re-entry Education Counselor will instruct detainees about process to access and navigate, services within the community. The Re-entry Education Counselor may utilize brief counseling and skills building groups and techniques to help individuals build constructive interpersonal skills. The Re-entry Education Counselor will enhance, and support other programs available to the detainees. The Re-entry Education Counselor will work closely with the detention team, medical staff and the psychiatric provider, case managers, and program specialist to make timely referrals to services within the detainee�s community. The Re-entry Education Counselor will work on a professional level and conduct professional duties in a variety of non-traditional settings and within the polices set for by Eddy County Detention Center and Eddy County while always maintaining strict confidentiality. Employee performs work alone without direction, may work with one or two other people. Employee may be required to work irregular hours, attend job-related meetings, and perform other duties as assigned. The Re-entry Education Counselor will adhere to ethical standards of their respective credentials.
