JOB DESCRIPTION

OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Principal, and in collaboration with the District Instructional Support Team and Department Chairs, the Course Lead develops an effective course-alike collaborative team at his/her school site through formal and informal interactions, mediating conflict, and facilitating consensus.  The Course Lead ensures all other teachers of his/her site-based course team are fully informed regarding the course curriculum and assessments.  The Course Lead also collaborates with fellow Course Leads, both vertically at his/her school site and laterally across schools within the District.  Districtwide Course Lead Teams make informed decisions about curriculum and instruction based on research and the analysis of teacher and student work and assessments.  Districtwide Course Lead Teams also facilitate the joint work of all department teachers in determining the essential curriculum for a given course, establishing learning targets, developing standards-based assessments to measure student growth and achievement, analyzing assessment data, organizing course resources, and continually modifying curriculum and assessments to meet the needs of the students in CVUHSD.  

COMPENSATION
Course Leads are to be compensated at a rate of $50/hour not to exceed 53 hours.

The following CVUHSD Course Lead qualifications and responsibilities are aligned to each of the seven domains of the Teacher Leader Model Standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Training will be provided by the district, as necessary, in the implementation of the CVUHSD Data Analysis Protocol, the effective use of Canvas, Google Drive and Illuminate, ISTE Standards,  collaborative facilitation skills, mediating conflict, and reaching consensus.

1. Scheduled to teach the specified course in the school year of the assignment

2. Possesses a deep understanding of the course curriculum, Common Core Standards for Literacy, and standards for your subject area and effectively and explicitly tie course outcomes to the elements of the CV Graduate Profile

3. Ability to analyze data, using Data Analysis Protocol,  for the purpose of modifying curriculum and instruction

4. Ability to motivate colleagues individually and in team settings

5. Ability to express complex ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing 

6. Familiarity with the ISTE Student Standards

7. Demonstrate effective time management, organization, and proactive, open communication with colleagues and administrators

8. Fosters an inclusive cohort of colleagues who turn to one another for learning, support, and resources and who welcome diverse perspective in addressing educational challenges

9. Fosters trust among group members, develop collective wisdom, and build ownership and action that supports student learning

10. Helps colleagues and team members work collaboratively to solve problems, make decisions, manage conflict, and promote meaningful change

11. Models effective skills in listening, presenting ideas, leading discussions, clarifying, mediating, and identifying the needs of self and others in order to advance shared goals and professional learning

12. Models effective communication and collaboration skills focused on improving educational outcomes with stakeholders

13. Understands and provides support for district and site initiatives

14. Uses knowledge and understanding of the different backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures and languages in the school community to promote effective interactions among colleagues, families and the larger community

15. Works collaboratively with district leadership, site administration, fellow course leads, and teachers

16. Works collaboratively with the English Learner Instructional Coach, and the District Instructional Support Team at large, to support the implementation of the ELD standards in all courses

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitate full implementation of content standards for your course and the Common Core Standards for Literacy in your content area.

SUMMER COMMITMENT:

• Plan, prepare, and facilitate professional learning for all district teachers of your course during Summer PL Week.  

• Coordinate the following for your course:

• Revision of the curriculum map; ensure it is uploaded to Google prior to July 30th.

• Refinement and/or development of Common Summative Assessments (CSAs); ensure their placement in Illuminate prior to August 1st.

• Development of quarterly Performance Tasks; ensure their development in Illuminate prior to August 1st.

SCHOOL YEAR COMMITMENT

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

• Required to attend at least 3 full release days throughout the school year, facilitated by a member of the District Instructional Support Team, to: analyze Common Summative Assessment (CSA) data, make revisions to course curriculum, share best practices, collaboratively address challenges related to course curriculum and assessments.

• Regularly and proactively communicate with course-alike colleagues in regard to pacing, deadline reminders, RTI2 plans, differentiation, various course resources, course updates, and decisions made by district level course lead teams.

• Ensure that the curriculum map, assessment timeline with links, and resources are uploaded into Google by designated due dates.

• Ensure that the ISTE standards and CV Graduate Profile elements are linked in the curriculum map

• Manage and organize content for your course on Google Drive by making revisions to curriculum and adding resources as needed.

• Maintain an on-going agenda and meeting minutes of collaboration to encourage communication with site course teams

• Maintain a monthly log of support services provided to their course team.

• Facilitate the development of site-based Common Formative Assessments (CFAs) for your course and ensure they are uploaded to Illuminate prior to designated due dates.

• Facilitate the development of Common Summative Assessments (CSAs) with course-level colleagues and ensure the development of CSAs in Illuminate prior to designated due dates.

• Support teachers in administering, scoring (when necessary), and accessing and interpreting results for SBAC Interim Assessments

• Ensure RTI2 plans for your course are developed as a result of CFA data analysis and are uploaded to Google for use immediately following collaboration.

COLLABORATION

• Plans and facilitates focused collaboration meetings; facilitates department collaborations that are data-driven, action-oriented, and targeted to improve both teaching practice and student learning.

• Facilitate the implementation of the CVUHSD Data Analysis Protocol  for both formative and summative assessments with course-level colleagues, enabling colleagues to collaboratively analyze, reflect upon, and adjust subsequent instruction based upon assessment results.

• Facilitate the development and/or maintenance of course content, assessments, and instructional resources housed in Canvas

• Facilitate the sharing of best practices among course-alike colleagues.

• Attend professional learning relative to technology and programs/courses offered within the department; allocates time for the department to share best practices related to technology.

• Attend site departmental instructional leadership meetings as scheduled.

• Collaborate with colleagues to develop comprehensive strategies, including the use of technology, for engaging families and community members as partners in the educational process.

TEACHER SUPPORT 

• Support effective implementation and monitoring of English Language Arts and Literacy Standards, ELD Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, Common Core curriculum and assessment, and/or CV Graduate Profile elements in your courses. 

• Assist teachers in utilizing District adopted instructional technology, Canvas, Google Drive and Illuminate, to create and manage assessments, curriculum, and instructional resources.

• Publicizes and encourages peers to engage in summer professional learning opportunities, and participates him or herself, when possible; such opportunities include curriculum development, facilitating and attending trainings, participating in leadership planning meetings, planning professional learning, and assisting in the inventorying and ordering of instructional resources.

• When necessary, assist department members in administering regularly scheduled summative assessments and Common Formative Assessments (CFAs) and uploading assessment data in Illuminate.
