Job Description: The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is the regional planning and intergovernmental coordination agency that focuses on issues critical to the region’s success, including growth and development, transportation, water resources, services for older adults and workforce solutions. ARC is dedicated to unifying the region’s collective resources to prepare the metropolitan area for a prosperous future. This is done through professional planning initiatives, the provision of objective information and the involvement of the community in collaborative partnerships.
The ARC Performance Analysis and Monitoring team in the Transportation Planning Department is seeking a part-time, temporary individual to be responsible to support active transportation planning specifically working on bike network modeling, bikeway comfort index, pedestrian bridge efficacy research, etc.
The ideal candidate for this position will be familiar with working with spatial data to edit geographic data using GIS or GeoPandas, editing network links using PTV VISUM, change field information, modify existing features, reshape and edit vertices. To be successful, the candidate should have solid time management skills, ability to work independently and possess a desire to learn, overcome challenges and solve problems.
This temporary position is not eligible for benefits, working up to 29 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Create, edit, and process geographic data using ArcGIS Pro;
- Work with OpenStreetMap (OSM) data and integrate it with other spatial datasets;
- Handle attribute data related to routes, links, and nodes;
- Assist in managing and updating street network data;
- Support the team in spatial analysis and visualization tasks;
- Collaborate with team members on project-based tasks and provide GIS-related insights;
- Performs other duties as assigned to support agency goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications: - Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in city or regional planning, urban studies, GIS, geography, or related field;
OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies: - Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro;
- Familiarity with OpenStreetMap (OSM) data and tools;
- Understanding of transportation concepts such as routes, links, and nodes;
- Basic knowledge of spatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, geodatabases);
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team;
- Solid time management skills;
- Ability to work independently.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience with scripting or automation in Python for GIS tasks;
- Knowledge of transportation modeling or network analysis;
- Familiarity with spatial databases.
