Position Summary:
As a Geotechnical Project Manager Professional Engineer (PE), you will provide project management and oversight of assigned projects for the Geotechnical Department. These projects will have a focus on both shallow and deep foundation for geotechnical engineering.
Job Responsibilities:
- Travel safely to various job sites in a company provided vehicle; maintain company vehicle (schedule oil changes, inside/outside upkeep and complete monthly vehicle inspection reports)
- Provide guidance and oversight to staff professionals for collection of field data
- Mentor other geotechnical staff
- Review and interpret field samples for geotechnical analysis
- Schedule and manage subcontractors
- Generate reports, recommendations and other documentation needed by clients, including engineering and design
- Develop and manage projects with clients
- Create, prepare and update project proposals and technical reports in a timely manner
- Classify soils per ASTM standards
- Review, update and approve invoices weekly for on-going projects
- Prepare and meet project budgets
- Examine engineering reports, lot letters and field recommendations produced by field staff
- Conduct site meetings, site estimates, and project recommendations for prospective and current clients
- Review, update and approve invoices weekly for on-going projects
- Maintain excellent communication both verbally and electronically with senior management, project managers and colleagues
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and integrity
- Follow all company safety procedures and policies
- Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications & Skills:
- Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
- 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
- Professional Engineering license (PE) or Engineering Intern license (EI/EIT) and ability to obtain PE within 1-2 years
- 2-3 years of Geotechnical full-time work experience
- 2+ years of project management and oversight/mentorship of other geotechnical professionals/technicians
- Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to use technology
- Strong computer and math skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents
- Knowledge of geotechnical engineering calculations (soil settlement, bearing pressure, slope stability)
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, detailed reports, short correspondence and memos
- Knowledge of geotechnical and construction materials testing methods, ASTM standards, and soil classifications
- Ability to calculate results from geotechnical/construction materials testing data
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents
- Ability to accurately complete field-testing paperwork and detailed figures
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to write technical reports, proposals, business correspondences and/or procedure manuals as needed
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, detailed reports, short correspondence and memos
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Boring Log software, AutoCAD and other engineering design software, deep foundation software, slope stability software, laboratory software and settlement software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to use technology/computer
- Strong leadership skills and an eye for detail
- Proficient use of Microsoft Word and Excel
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- Days and hours for this position are typically Monday-Friday
- Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments
- Field work on outside construction sites involving long-term standing, sitting and potentially repetitive motions
- Typically, this position involves 80% office work, 20% field work, depending on the week/work
- Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus), smell, hear and touch (use your hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit)
- Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs.
- You may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day within the Mid-Atlantic region
- Some weekend, overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required
