Position Purpose
The Fellow in the External Relations and Advocacy Division (ERA) at the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) will serve as a key coordinator for the department. This role will provide support across various strategic initiatives, particularly focusing on communication, advocacy, and branding efforts. The Fellow will assist with tracking and implementing ERA’s Strategic Objectives guided by the ASPPH Strategic Plan. The Fellow will split their responsibilities, dedicating approximately 50% of their time to assisting the Director of Communications and the remaining time supporting the Chief External Relations and Advocacy Officer (%20), Senior Director of Branding and Marketing (15%), and the Director of Advocacy and Federal Affairs (15%). 

Primary Responsibilities
  • Department-Wide Coordination: Assist in the planning and implementation of department-wide initiatives including organizing meetings, tracking deadlines, and ensuring smooth communication within the External Relations and Advocacy department. 
  • Maintain project management tools and databases (Monday.com & Salesforce) to support department-wide initiatives. 
  • Communications Support (50%): Assist the Director of Communications in drafting, editing, and managing content for newsletters, emails, and web platforms.
  • Help coordinate media and public relations efforts. 
  • Assist in our monthly ASPPH Presents webinar series and quarterly regional convenings. 
  • Support management of the Marketing and Communications Section  
  • Executive Assistance (20%): Provide administrative support to the Chief External Relations and Advocacy Officer. 
  • Branding and Marketing Support (15%) 
  • Support the Senior Director of Branding and Marketing in crafting a comprehensive branding strategy through market research and competitive analysis to identify key trends and audience preferences. 
  • Assist in developing a well-organized and accessible digital library for photos and videos. 
  • Advocacy Support (15%): Collaborate with the Director of Advocacy and Federal Affairs on federal advocacy efforts, including policy research, tracking, event planning, and writing.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong written, analytical, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across teams 
  • Proficiency with digital communications platforms and tools. 
  • Interest in public health communications, policy, and marketing 
  • Exceptional customer service skills and teamwork.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications and Windows operating systems and generally comfortable with cloud software.

Education & Experience

·        Bachelor’s degree in public health, communications, or a related field. 
 

Additional Information
  • Work Locale: The position is based in the Washington, DC, area and requires an in-office day on Wednesdays.
                                                                                                                              
  • Reports To: The position reports directly to the Director of Communications.
 
  • Manages/Supervises: None.
 
  • Authority to Work in the US: The individual must be legally eligible to work in the US. ASPPH participates in E-Verify to confirm eligibility.
 
  • Travel Requirements: The position may involve occasional domestic and local travel related to meeting support.
 
  • Compensation: The salary range for this position is $60,000-$65,000/year. ASPPH offers a generous benefits package.
 
  • Position: Full-time, exempt position. This is a 1-year term position.
