IFC’s Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Forestry (MAF) department encompasses a wide range of sectors crucial for economic growth and meeting basic human needs.
Within MAS, the Agribusiness and Forestry team focuses on supporting investments in (i) the food production value chain, including suppliers of inputs (seeds, fertilizers, irrigation), crop plantations, sustainable animal protein and aqua-farms, food and bio-fuel processors, agri-commodity traders, and food distributors, and (ii) the forestry value chain, including plantations and downstream operations in the processed wood and paper sectors (pulp, paper, packaging, sawn wood, panelboards, biomass, etc.).
MAF is seeking an intern as part of our Experiential Internship Program (EIP). The Experiential Internship Program (EIP) offers highly motivated individuals an opportunity to be exposed to the mission and work of IFC and the broader World Bank Group and become part of the world’s largest private sector development institution. The program encourages individuals to bring new perspectives and innovative ideas to IFC’s work, while enhancing skills in a diverse and highly stimulating environment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
As an INTERN, you will focus on supporting the Industry Specialists and Global Sector Leads in Global Agri and Forestry at the IFC and contribute to identifying, evaluating, processing, implementing, and reporting on global Agribusiness and Forestry investments both mature and early-stage and assume a vital role in addressing global challenges, such as food and nutrition security, reducing the environment and GHG footprint of agriculture, helping transform food systems through application of technology and new knowhow among others. Working closely with the Industry Specialists and Global Sector Leads, you will provide research, analysis, and strategic support to advance IFC’s thought leadership for new initiatives and investments in the agri and forestry sector.
Research and Analysis:
• Conduct comprehensive research on global megatrends, challenges, and opportunities, with a specific focus on sustainability, innovation, and emerging technologies.
• Analyze data and market intelligence to identify key industry trends, risks, and potential investment opportunities.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and briefings summarizing research findings and providing recommendations.
Project Support:
• Assist in the development and implementation of projects and initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable agribusiness practices and addressing, climate, environmental and social challenges.
• Support the Industry Specialist in conducting due diligence on potential investment opportunities in the sector.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams within IFC to ensure alignment and coordination of efforts.
Stakeholder Engagement:
• Support the Global Sector Leads and Industry Specialist in building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, industry associations, and private sector partners.
• Assist in organizing and participating in workshops, conferences, and industry events to promote knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Policy and Strategy Development:
• Contribute to the development of policies, strategies, and guidelines that guide IFC’s approach to sustainable agribusiness and addressing global challenges.
• Stay updated on international best practices, standards, and regulations related to agribusiness and provide recommendations for their integration into IFC’s operations.
Knowledge Management:
• Contribute to the creation and dissemination of knowledge products, such as research papers, case studies, sector notes, sector pitchbooks, and thought leadership articles.
• Support the development and maintenance of a knowledge-sharing platform to facilitate information exchange among internal and external stakeholders.
• This internship provides a valuable opportunity to contribute to the advancement of sustainable agribusiness and food security and gain hands-on, practical experience in addressing global challenges within the sector.

The position calls for a highly motivated individual who can work seamlessly with teams and independently complete tasks assigned to her/him. The successful candidate must be currently enrolled in a master’s degree or PhD program in relevant field.
Other specific skills include:
• Commitment to IFC and the World Bank Group’s mission, strategy, and values.
• Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize complex information from diverse sources.
• Knowledge of global agribusiness trends, challenges, and sustainability practices.
• Knowledge of industry financial and economic dynamics with the ability to work with forecasting models a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills – ability to identify issues and practical solutions.
• Ability to work effectively in teams and build bridges across organizational boundaries.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills in English. French or Spanish or Portuguese is a plus with the ability to present complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
