Job Summary:

Energy project development is foundational to Tenaska and central to our future. We are seeking a collaborative and self-motivated individual to help us advance existing and planned energy project development opportunities.  This position is designed to provide an intern exposure to work within interdisciplinary energy project development teams comprised of project and business development professionals, engineers, environmental scientists, and financial and market analysts.  This work occurs in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where creativity and a thorough understanding of complex energy project development challenges are required to provide innovative solutions for the company’s stakeholders. 

The Development Analyst Intern is responsible for supporting all facets of the energy project development process from siting and origination to advanced project development.  Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work on a variety of technologies critical to the global energy transition, including traditional renewables such as solar, battery storage, and wind, as well as carbon capture & sequestration, hydrogen, and gas-fired generation project development.  In this role, the Development Analyst Intern will be expected to prepare and complete detailed project schedules and budgets, presentations, complex financial models and economic projections, market/industry research and trend analysis, as well as various other tasks to support developers and senior leadership.  To be successful in this role, a candidate must possess an exceptional degree of intellectual curiosity and willingness to navigate challenging environments with a steep learning curve.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Preparation of development plans, including detailed schedules, budgets, and major decision points
  • Preparation of detailed economic proforma and valuation models
  • Preparation and review of financial information for completeness and accuracy for use in analyzing complex development opportunities
  • Support pricing analysis and bidding strategy to originate revenue contracts for traditional renewables (solar, battery storage, and wind), carbon capture & sequestration, hydrogen, and gas-fired generation projects under development
  • Identification of issues that may impede successful development, identification of potential solutions, and reporting of issues and solutions to management
  • Work with other development team members to foster relationships with local landowners, politicians, regulators, and other project constituents to garner support for and minimize opposition to development projects
  • Communication with senior management on the results of activities and analyses
  • Ability to work with internal and external professionals, such as developers, engineers, legal counsel, third-party consultants, and customers to successfully complete project development activities and, when appropriate, to reflect technical aspects of complex projects in an economic proforma
  • Ability to read and understand a wide variety of development project-related documents
  • Research and due diligence of market trends and opportunities using publicly available information
  • Preparation of analysis, reports, and research for distribution/presentation to senior management and/or customers
  • Ability to travel domestically on short notice for overnight business
  • Reliable, predictable, and dependable attendance is a requirement

 

Education/Basic Requirements:

  • Significant progress toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent
  • Strong interest in the energy industry
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint ability

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Strong organizational, business decision making and analytical skills
  • Strong project management and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of financial and business information systems
  • High level of assertiveness, initiative, and flexibility to perform a wide variety of projects with unpredictable schedules and periodic short deadlines
  • Ability to effectively navigate complex environments with limited guidance
  • Ability to handle extremely confidential and sensitive company information
  • Excellent PC/Windows, Word, and database ability

This internship will be for Summer 2025 & in-office at our Omaha, NE headquarters
