    Taylorsville High School – CTE – Automotive Service Technician Instructor – (1.0 FTE)

    This position is for a Transportation pathway teacher at Taylorsville High School for the 2024-25 school year.  The teacher may be responsible for teaching:
    –  Introduction to Automotive   
    –  Auto 2 – Auto Chassis MLR
    –  Auto 3 – Auto Engine MLR

    Required Certification

    Requires one of the following:
    – a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Secondary or CTE License Area of Concentration with an automotive service technician endorsement.
    – a valid Associate Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Secondary or CTE License Area of Concentration with an automotive service technician endorsement.
    – an equivalent license and endorsement in another state; or
    – Have six (6) years of documented, related, full-time occupational experience (not teaching experience) within the ten (10) years prior to application as an automotive service technician with demonstration of competency in maintenance light repair, suspension & steering, brakes, electrical/electronic systems, and engine repair through dealer manufacturer-based equivalents.
    – Have current Automotive Service Excellence Industry exams: G1-MLR, A4-Suspension & Steering, A5-Brakes, A6-Electrical/Electronic Systems, A8-Engine Performance. Note: ASE certification in all five areas will be required for ongoing instruction in the Auto Service Technician training program.

    The following qualifications are preferred:
    – have both industry experience and current ASE certifications in the required areas.
    – willingness to run a CTSO (Skills USA)

Prior to hire an applicant will need to submit a letter from a supervisor on company letterhead indicating duties, responsibilities, and dates of employment.
    -If qualifying based on ASE industry exams, upload copies of current certificates for the Automotive Service Excellence Industry exams listed above.

    Required Knowledge and Skills
    – Must be able to pass all safety requirements including being able to demonstrate correct use of equipment
    – Ability to implement an instructional program which meets ASE competency standards in the five basic automotive areas and maintain an automotive facility that meets ASE certification requirements.
    – Knowledge and ability to use computers and industry diagnostic tools
    – Willingness to lead a CTE Student Organization (Skills USA)
    – Ability and willingness to collaborate and work with other professionals in Professional Learning Communities.
    – Knowledge of current industry certifications related to areas of instruction and ability to support students in gaining skills to pass these certifications.
    – Ability and willingness to work with industry partners to align classroom instruction with skill needs of employers
    – Ability to use and implement approved curriculum maps.
    – Ability to evaluate student academic progress through various formal and informal assessments.
    – Ability to communicate student academic progress to parents through various formats.
    – Ability and willingness to use technology to enhance student engagement.
    – Ability and willingness to implement proficiency-based grading.

    Job Summary
    Under the direction of the school principal, the classroom teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment where students develop the skills to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, lifelong learners and productive citizens.  Teachers maintain a safe environment; establish rapport with students, parents and colleagues; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education and do so in accordance with each student’s ability.   Teachers differentiate curriculum and use effective research-based methods of instruction. Implement Proficiency-Based Grading in Student Evaluations.
     
    Essential Functions

    • Maintain a safe, orderly lab environment following all required safety procedures.
    • Utilize lab equipment to apply concepts found in USBE’s CTE Core Curriculum.
    • Maintain and inventory equipment.
    • Build strong working relationships with industry partners to support alignment of core content to industry needs.
    • Teach the core content area(s) outlined in the USBE’s Core Curriculum, and adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other approved learning activities.
    • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the child.
    • Utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction
    • Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
    • Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.
    • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom through organization and appropriate discipline strategies.
    • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
    • Be familiar with and willing to implement Proficiency-Based Learning in evaluating students.
    • Be familiar with and willing to implement the Granite Way.
    • Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, student planners, school website, and other appropriate means, to discuss the student’s progress.
    • Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff regarding the student’s academic and personal growth areas.
    • Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are essential functions of this position.
    • Create an effective learning environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
    • Provide and maintain a safe and supportive environment in the classroom and on the school campus.

    Working Environment

    • Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.
    • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

     
    Physical Demands
     
    Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Ability to reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects. Ability to talk or hear. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to focus. Physical demands require moving and lifting supplies, equipment, etc. up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

    • While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is regularly required to speak and/or hear.  The teacher is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch.  The teacher is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
    • The teacher must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 
    • Teachers in P.E., CTE, Theatre and/or Art may be required to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
