    Roads Crew Leader – Public Works Department

     Job Overview:
    The Town is seeking a Roads Crew Leader for its Public Works Department. This position is responsible for supervising and participating in the construction, maintenance, and repair of public works facilities and roads. Sample duties include: planning, organizing and supervising the work of groups of employees engaged in performing routine repairs, maintenance, construction activities, and snow and ice operations on streets, roads, bridges, storm drains and other municipal physical facilities; operating equipment and vehicles; preparing and maintaining records. This position requires thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions, Call Before You Dig requirements, and environmental protection laws and regulations as related to Roads Division work.
     
    The Town of Mansfield’s Department of Public Works provides services for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the Town’s fleet and infrastructure such as roads; sidewalks; bridges; solid waste facilities; park and recreation areas; athletic fields; sewers and sewer pump stations; and vehicles and equipment. The following departments, divisions, and programs are reflected under Public Works: Engineering Division which includes sewers; Operations Division which includes equipment maintenance, grounds maintenance, road maintenance, transfer station and tree warden; Solid Waste Division which includes trash and recycling contracted services.

    Qualifications:
    Graduation from high school or vocational school and four (4) years of skilled experience in the maintenance and repair of roads (e.g., road construction and maintenance, municipal snow plowing and ice control, masonry, pavement rehabilitation and maintenance, and tree trimming and removal). Experience showing progressively responsible work and leading small construction crews/teams is preferred. Experience using a computer to send and receive email and to conduct inventories, schedule, and track work is preferred.
     
    Possession of a valid Connecticut Class B, CDL; and Connecticut Class A, CDL, within one (1) year from the date of appointment. Incumbents in this class will be required to accept assignment to emergency duties including snow and ice removal as required.

    Work Schedule & Location:
    This position is normally scheduled 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will normally work 6:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday through Friday. Selected candidates must also be available to respond to work on evenings, weekends, and holidays due to inclement weather events and other exigent circumstances. The work location is 230 Clover Mill Road, Mansfield Center.

    Salary (7/1/2023):
    Grade 15 – $33.29/hr – $36.45/hr
