Job Description Summary
Under the general direction of the Dean, coordinates the daily activities and operation of the Art Department and studio. Supervises the use of art facilities and ensures a well-maintained and safe environment for students and faculty. The Coordinator/Art position is essential to the smooth operations of running the fine arts program. This critical role needs to be filled as soon as possible. Generally funded, the art coordinator is responsible for purchasing and maintaining the technical equipment in the art department, creating a safe working environment for students and faculty who work with materials that can be dangerous if not used and stored appropriately, and setting up processes and procedures for faculty and students in the department to run efficient and safe art studio spaces. The art coordinator works collaboratively with the department chair to manage the materials and budgets associated with these materials and the studio equipment and requisite maintenance. This is normally a full-time position with a work schedule of five days and 40 hours/week. Duties are performed 12 months a year and may include some evenings and weekends.

Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of ceramics studios and facilities, in particular, glaze preparation and kiln repair and maintenance. Knowledge of basic woodworking and/or metal-working equipment and processes. Knowledge of printmaking facilities and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a Art of field related to the assignment and four (4) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and qualifying experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities. 2. Demonstrated knowledge of safety regulations related to the use and maintenance of art materials and tools. 3. Understanding of, sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of Peralta Colleges’ students, faculty, staff and community.
