Summary:
The Content Specialist shall
– Be responsible for the leadership and coordination necessary to bring about effective curricular articulation, curricular revision and innovation within the assigned curricular area.
– Expect to communicate and disseminate information and complete tasks that they initiate due to the needs they perceive in their curricular areas based on district needs.
Qualifications
– Valid teaching certificate in area for which applying
– Master’s degree and advanced coursework in subject area, curriculum development and educational leadership preferred.
– Recognized by peers, administrators, students and parents as an effective educator and capable leader with strong interpersonal relationship skills.
– Thorough understanding of current subject area research as it relates to curriculum within a K-12 setting.
– Demonstrated expertise in curriculum, instruction and assessment.
– Ability to positively motivate and assist colleagues in developing strong curriculum, instructional practices and assessment techniques.
– Effective oral and written communication skills.
– Punctual in meeting professional responsibilities.
– Strong organizational skills along with the flexibility to respond to the specific needs of given situations.
– Demonstrated ability to apply creative thinking and sound reasoning skills to the solution of problems and challenges.
Responsibilities Include
– Serve as a resource for curriculum questions and concerns
– Assist new teachers with understanding curriculum and assessment within the content area
– Attend IU content meetings as appropriate
– Seek input and communicate recommendations for program changes/concerns
– Assist in leading curriculum work, including the development and maintenance of curriculum documents
– Keep abreast of new trends, developments, regulations, materials and equipment, and disseminate such information to all appropriate personnel on a regular basis.
– Coordinate an annual inventory of materials, equipment, and textbooks with the assistance of the High School Departmental Liaison
– Support implementation and communication with direction from Curriculum Department
– Assess department needs and make budgetary recommendations
– Assist in the interview process of new staff members when requested
– Analyze relevant data to inform curricular decision-making
– Attend meetings as requested with Curriculum Department Administrators, LFs, and HS Department Liaisons
– Communicate areas of concern and interest to the Curriculum Department.
– Accept responsibility as Course Leader for one Course
– Other duties as assigned.
