This position is being recruited for in Anchorage, Soldotna, Wasilla, Fairbanks, or Juneau. 
Pay will be determined based on location of selected individual.
 
Anchorage, Soldotna, Wasilla hourly salary: $19.59
Fairbanks hourly salary: $20.18
Juneau hourly salary: $20.57

 
What you will be doing:
The Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Spill Prevention and Response (SPAR) is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a College Intern 2 to assist the Division in electronic and hard copy file organization, data base entry QA/QC, and other administrative tasks. As part of a paper reduction and modernization effort, SPAR is scanning existing files related to spill response and contaminated site investigations and these files must be placed in the appropriate electronic file location using a standard naming convention. The position will also be asked to perform other duties to assist in organization, and will have opportunities to learn about the nature of the Division’s work and work with a variety of professional staff. Interns can work part time or full time depending on their availability.

Our team works with responsible parties; state, local, and federal government entities; Alaska Native Organizations; non-governmental organizations; and private citizens to ensure the health and safety of Alaskans. This position will work with many SPAR staff.

Position’s will be filled in our Anchorage, Soldotna, Wasilla, Fairbanks, or Juneau office in the vibrant downtown area, close to both shopping and dining. Truly a central location! These selected candidates will have their own workstation and free parking.

We are looking for a candidate that has experience in the following areas: 

  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical, systematic, and sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources, as necessary.
  • Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Clerical: Knowledge of filing, typing, entering data, maintaining records, and using and completing forms.
  • Organizational Awareness: Knows the organization’s mission and functions, and how its social, political, and technological systems work and operates effectively

Special Notice:

  • Incumbent must be able to lift 50 pounds (occasionally)
  • Applicants must be taking 6 or more credits and already completed 24 semester credits (or 36 quarter credits).

Minimum Qualifications

Currently accepted, enrolled, and attending an accredited college in an undergraduate degree program while maintaining an academic load of at least six credit hours per semester (eight credit hours per quarter);
AND
In good standing with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher;
AND
Have successfully completed training as a College Intern 1 or 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework in the degree program.

Special Note:
Academic transcripts and/or tuition billings may be construed as proof of enrollment.

Appointment and retention in this class series is restricted to students actively pursuing an undergraduate degree program in an accredited college and maintaining an academic load of at least six semester (eight quarter) credit hours per semester (quarter).

Students who have completed spring semester courses and are enrolled in fall semester courses are considered to be attending college during the summer regardless of whether or not summer courses are taken.
