Job Summary

Our Co-op experience at the Village of Menomonee Falls provides a great opportunity for exposure to many different aspects of Municipal Civil Engineering.  You will gain broad experience and insight into the profession that will help guide your future educational and professional decision-making.

The Village’s Co-op experience will be based on working closely with the Village’s engineers on project design, development review (including stormwater management), construction inspection and municipal utilities.  The Village uses a practical approach to civil engineering to provide quality infrastructure and services that meet or exceed the needs of our residents.  


Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area within a Village department, which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:

  1. Knowledge of modern principles and methodology of Civil Engineering.
  2. Ability to communicate ideas and explanations clearly in English, both orally and in writing.
  3. Ability to write reports, memos, and business correspondence using proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.  
  4. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, elected and appointed officials, and the general public at customer counter and public meetings outside of regular business hours.
  5. Ability to use and interpret a variety of land use related aerials, maps and site plans; geographic information systems (GIS) data; and a variety of Engineering data.
  6. Ability to use common Microsoft Office programs and GIS software.  
  7. Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional working relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
  8. Ability to work with the public in a friendly, tactful manner.

Qualifications
  1. A student of junior or senior standing (as of January 2025) enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program for Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
  2. A valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one. 

Supplemental Information

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Position requires extreme accuracy and prolonged sitting in the performance of daily duties and frequent repetitive keyboarding motion for preparing reports and other documents. The position also requires walking and some standing and lifting of boxes. Must be able to travel occasionally as needed.

The equipment required to be used for this position includes a phone system, desktop computer, copy machine, and scanner.
