This internship is a 10-week long program with a set hourly rate of $41.50.
Job Description
With Fannie Mae’s 10-week (June 2025 – August 2025) paid internship program you will be empowered to drive change, lead with creativity, own your career, and make a difference. As a path to our full-time opportunities, you will be a true contributor on a team that fits your skills and interest in a dynamic environment alongside our employees. Our program is for rising university senior students hosted in our Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia and Plano, TX offices.

As a Technology Program Intern, you enjoy the challenge of solving technical problems, and you thrive in environments where you can collaborate with other engineers. Through hands-on experience and interaction with some of the greatest technology teams in the industry, you will gain experience and understanding in producing solutions to meet our customers’ needs.
As a valued colleague on our team, you may contribute to designing, producing, testing, or implementing software, technology, or processes, as well as contribute to creating and maintaining IT architecture, cloud-based systems, data infrastructure, data analytics platforms, and securing against cyber security threats. Our interns collaborate with senior staff to help implement modern technologies and maintain tools using industry standard best practices. This opportunity will allow you to apply your fundamental knowledge of a process-driven approach in designing solutions for our customers and internal partners.
As an intern, you will be assigned to a team from one of the below functions within Fannie Mae’s Chief Information Office:
- Integrated Technology Solutions – Build business applications that ensure consistent, reliable, and accessible delivery while championing a cloud-first perspective through innovation, speed-to-market, and customer centricity.
- Digital Acceleration and Alignment– Implements framework and process for prioritization of CIO initiatives to accelerate technology delivery and improve expected outcomes.
- Chief Data Office – Ensures that our data is analyzed, managed, governed, & fully leveraged to deliver insights to become a more innovative, data-driven organization, support our customers & partners, and drive digital transformation. Effective management of our Cloud infrastructure to maximize scalability, efficiencies & security while minimizing costs and reducing our on-premise infrastructure footprint. Management of Corporate Technology assets ensuring alignment of critical applications to Corporate business needs.

Examples of intern tasks and projects include:
- Producing clean, efficient software solutions to meet customer needs
- Integrating software components and third-party applications
- Providing support to production applications, troubleshooting, debugging, and upgrading existing software
- Recommending and executing improvements to both the software and development process
- Creating scalable, automated solutions to support business needs
- Gathering and evaluate user feedback
- Writing and maintaining tests to ensure solutions are compatible and retain stability
- Managing Data platforms and tools, monitoring production logs, analyzing data to determine root cause, and coordinating with users to triage issues
- Supporting data protection and governance, ensuring sensitive data is governed throughout the technology ecosystem and prevent data loss
- Create and maintain architecture diagrams for key software applications
- Design and maintain JIRA service desks
Qualifications
THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
Minimum Qualifications
- Be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Academic achievement (preferred GPA of 3.0 or above)
Preferred Qualifications
- Rising senior enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program (2026 graduation date)
- Computer Sciences and Engineering majors are preferred. Other technical majors will be considered based on a candidate’s technical experience and/or aptitude.
- Understanding of software development and programming in language such as Java, JavaScript, C++, or Python
- Familiarity with various technical frameworks and Agile development methodologies
- Experience with databases, software design and development in a test-driven environment
- Strong analytical background
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to contribute to a team atmosphere
- Self-starter, strong business acumen, and results focused
- Superior communication skills, both oral and written
