JOB TITLE: Athletic Coordinator 9-12
DESCRIPTION: To provide each enrolled student of secondary schools age an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence
a knowledge of the pleasure of a sport and principles of fair play.
QUALIFICATIONS: Coordinator must possess a valid SED teaching certificate, coaching permit, valid CPR and First Aid Certificates. Coordinator must have successful experience as a coach on the secondary level.
Alternatives to the above qualifications may be established as the Board finds appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Immediate Supervisor/Principal EHHS
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organizes and administers the overall program of the extra-curricular, interscholastic athletics for East Hartford High School.
- Provides recommendations in the selection, assignment and annual evaluation for athletic coaches and staff members.
- Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.
- Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling for all interscholastic athletic programs.
- Recommends for hire officials, staff and security, physicians, and police as required, and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
- Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
- Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
- Verifies each athlete’s eligibility according to established physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport.
- Prepares and administers the athletic budget.
- Requisitions program supplies and equipment.
- Supervises all ticket sales of the athletic program and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds.
- Arranges all details of visiting teams’ needs.
- Facilitates the non-school use of playing fields and facilities.
- Arranges field and gymnasium practice schedules.
- Provides for the physical examination of all athletes prior to the beginning of each session.
- Assists the school nurse in the processing of insurance reports and claims.
- Keeps records of the results of all high school athletic contests and maintains a record file of all award winners, stating the date and type of award.
- Plans and supervises recognition programs for school athletes.
- Assists personnel in the improvements of knowledge and instructional skills by encouraging participation in clinics, workshops and state meetings.
- Creates good will and public relations among respective league members, parents, coaches and school administrators.
- Provides and arranges for proper notification to student athletes on local, league and state athletic eligibility requirements.
- Prepares and submits reports pertaining to the athletic program.
- Maintains eligibility rules and submits certified lists to CIAC.
- Informs appropriate principal of all matters pertaining to athletics.
- Advises and assists the appropriate principal in all phases of the interscholastic athletic program.
- Attends school athletic events on a regular basis.
- Assumes such other functions as may be delegated.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Reduced teaching load .6 Teaching and .4 Athletic Coordinator. Member of EHEA.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education’s policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
