Job Summary
The Associate Director of Online Learning provides long-term and day-to-day management of the district’s online courses, assessments and programs. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and oversees the work of district teacher specialists and other online staff. The Associate Director is responsible for ensuring that the quality of the online courses in Granite School District is high and consistent with the rigor and scope of face-to-face offerings. The Associate Director is responsible for ensuring that all accreditation and regulatory requirements for online learning are met.
Essential Functions
- Plans, directs, and coordinates the Granite School District online learning program
- Meets regularly with directors to develop and revise responsive plans for district initiatives in online education
- Works with teachers and specialists to implement unified course format and packaging to provide students with seamless and user-friendly online learning through all courses
- Verifies the training of online faculty in collaboration with secondary administrators and recommends changes, as needed, to the online education staff
- Schedules online course offerings in conjunction with schools during all reporting periods
- Communicates with other district departments to coordinate support for online faculty and students to make the entire online education experience user-friendly, effective, and successful
- Collaborates with Information Technology to recommend and evaluate technologies relevant to online learning
- Assesses courses, makes recommendations for improving online courses, and regularly responds to current analytics of online learning student outcomes
- Keeps abreast of new developments and research in online education
- Reviews courses prior to implementation; provides assistance as needed; prepares and evaluates course materials and instructional plans, possibly indicating suggestions for improvement
- Facilitates credit recovery through local high schools using online course modules

Required Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to obtain, clarify, and exchange information; read, analyze, and interpret complex documents; collect, analyze, and interpret data; exercise independent judgment in making well-founded recommendations.
- Working knowledge of district policies.
- Skill in problem solving.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
- Skill in the use of computer-based programs including spreadsheets, databases and word processing.
- Ability to work effectively with others in circumstances that may include some stress.
Required Education, Training and Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Hold current Administrative/Supervisory License
Required Prior Experience
Three years building administrative experience
