Job Description

Albemarle is seeking a Capital Project Assurance Engineer to assist with capital project stage gate approval across its capital portfolio. This role will primarily assist project management teams to deploy project delivery systems across the globe along with providing guidance to ensure achievement of cost, schedule, and quality goals. Candidate must be experienced with handling capital projects that vary from small continuity capital at a site to $2 billion in total installed capital (TIC) on a pace of approximately 2 Billion USD per year of overall spending.  Currently, Albemarle works with internal resources to manage the continuity capital and global EPC/CM firms for various concurrent mega-projects (over $500 million TIC) in China, Australia, Chile, and the US.  The successful candidate must have experience with templates, tools, and Owner team staffing for implementation in this environment.  The candidate must have experience with stage gate approval process through Front End Engineering Design (FEED), Execution, & Commissioning. Candidate is an individual contributor working in a matrixed environment to assist other Project Managers.

Responsibilities

  • Subject matter expert in industry best practices for stage gate approvals of project deliverables managed through a web portal known as the Albemarle Project Process (APP).
  • Establish and support the implementation of the Albemarle standard project management deliverables within global EPC/CM firms and internal Engineering groups.
  • Provide development, leadership, oversight, advice, and guidance to project teams for stage gate reviews, work breakdown structures (WBS), approvals, peer reviews, readiness assessments, 3rd party risk assessments, etc.
  • Maintain liaison with local and corporate internal procurement, financial, and leadership teams to ensure alignment on corporate strategy and goals.
  • Facilitate and/or Participate on peer reviews at each stage gate of APP to provide quality assurance of deliverables moving forward.
  • Participate in the global Center of Excellence for Project Management, including facilitating lessons learned sessions, updating training, and updating APP templates for future use.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of project management experience on capital projects.
  • Previous supervisory experience within an Owner’s organization is required.

Skills Required

  • Knowledge/Skills:  Expertise in project management is a must.  Must be self-motivated and possess good organizational skills. Must be able to work as part of a team.  Must pay close attention to details, follow high standards for accuracy and completeness and accept constructive criticism from coworkers.
  • Computer Proficiencies: Detailed knowledge in SharePoint and SAP project systems is necessary.  General skills in MS PowerPoint, word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications are required.
  • Communication Skills:  Must have analytical skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Sciences, or related field.
  • Master’s Degree in related field is a plus.
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with IPA (Independent Project Analysis) and CII (Construction Industry Institute (CII) practices a plus.
  • Project Controls Experience, such as Project Controls Management, Project Scheduling, or Project Risk Management, is a plus
