Summer internship activities may include the following:
- Orientation and training events, field trips, social activities, weekly seminars and opportunities to meet and interact with functional leaders.
- Participating in continuous coaching conversations with your manager, who will provide direction throughout your internship.
- Provided with an assigned mentor for further guidance and to help you with the technical challenges of your role and give assistance in navigating through the day-to-day questions regarding working in the corporate world.
- Giving a presentation at the end of the summer to senior business leaders and key stakeholders. This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate what you learned in your internship and provide insight on your experience.
At the Phillips 66 Research Center in Bartlesville, OK, Energy Research and Innovation (ERI) employees from multiple business disciplines deliver critical support and solutions that enable strong operating excellence and growth opportunities for the company worldwide.
An intern with the Phillips 66 ERI Technical Solutions team works with personnel in ERI and Business Unit teams (e.g., Refining) to address challenging problems required to meet the energy demands of the future. The role will primarily utilize chemical engineering domain expertise and include lab- to pilot-scale experimental program development and oversight. A successful ERI intern has a customer-first mindset and is a self-starter who can learn quickly and work independently. Projects may consist of evaluating the performance of catalyst systems, understanding atypical feedstocks, and/or troubleshooting process integrity issues and assisting businesses to identify the most profitable approaches based on their business objectives and unit constraints.
- Learn about the ERI business by working with experts throughout the organization and company at a world-class research and development facility.
- Collaborating with laboratory, pilot plant, and commercial operations to collect data needed for developing technical solutions
- Troubleshoot and improve testing procedures for lab- and pilot-scale units

Requirements for a Phillips 66 Internship:
Basic/Required:
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters degree program in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science/Corrosion, Metallurgical Engineering, or equivalent field of study.
- At least one year into a master’s or PhD program with demonstrated progress in relevant coursework and research.
- Available for a minimum of ten continuous weeks
- Available to work at Bartlesville, OK research facility
Preferred:
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Previous internship or co-op participant in related industry
- Strong analytical skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Programming experience in Python, R, or Julia
- Experience with Algebraic Modeling Languages (e.g., GAMS, Pyomo) or Machine Learning Libraries (Keras, PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.)
- Experience with Process Simulation
