2025 Program Information
Duquesne Light Company offers summer internships that provide a hands-on, meaningful employment opportunity in a supportive setting that cultivates learning and collaboration. Duquesne Light’s internship program will provide you with a valuable experience and a solid start to your career in various disciplines.
- Internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid, and run for 12 weeks (May-August).
- Internships are located in Pittsburgh and follow DLH’s Hybrid Work Model (described below).
- Candidates must be full-time, degree-seeking students enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed their Sophomore year of studies.
- Candidates must be in good academic standing.
- Candidates must be willing to work the required schedule as defined in the job description.
- Demonstrated leadership ability through studies, employment or extracurricular activities.
- Aptitude for problem solving; strong communication skills.
Overall Purpose:
The Corporate Strategy team helps develop the Company’s long-term strategy to deliver on our vision of “a larger than light, clean energy future for all.” Our strategy can be summarized by C.A.R.E.S (Customer Centricity, Affordability, Resilient Culture, Energy of Things, and Strengthening our Core). The team helps deliver our strategic imperatives, the highest priority work needed to achieve our strategy, while balancing organizational capacity for the work that needs to be done today. Our goal is to continue to deliver exceptional results for our customers without putting undue strain on our employees.
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the EV Team and other groups across the company to execute DLC’s EV strategy.
- Research and implement methods to improve customer experience surrounding DLC’s EV programs and services, such as its EV charging infrastructure programs and EV time-of-use rate.
- Plan and execute compelling in-person and virtual educational events on electric mobility for customers, stakeholders and DLC employees.
- Promote and help administer DLC’s EV programs and services, including activities such as market research, lead generation, application review, and visiting project sites.
- Analyze and report on EV benefits and impacts, such as greenhouse gas reductions and energy utilization.
- Research and respond to customer and stakeholder requests for technical EV assistance.
- Represent the EV Team at internal and external events and meetings, as appropriate.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support business needs.
Education/Experience Requirements:
Applicants must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program and should be interested in pursuing a career in sustainability, environmental science, energy, marketing, communications, business, or economics. Candidates must have completed their sophomore year of studies. Demonstrated strength in writing skills is required.
Skills/Abilities:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.
Physical Requirements:
Work will be conducted in a hybrid environment with some time working remotely, and some time required to be in-office/on-site. Candidates must be within close proximity to Pittsburgh.
Other:
Applicants must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and social media screen.
Hybrid Work:
All internships follow our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Interns must be in the immediate Pittsburgh area for the summer. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
