Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor

New York
  • Full Time

Job Summary:

The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York (“SNP”) is currently hiring for its Summer College Internship Program for the summer of 2025. SNP is an independent local prosecutor’s office, which is responsible for felony narcotics investigations and prosecutions throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Over the summer, The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor, will conduct a nine week internship program that will immerse students into the legal field. The program is anticipated to begin on the first Monday in June 2025. College interns are compensated at ($560 per week), and work full-time, Monday through Friday, from 9:00am – 5:00pm. College Interns are directly supervised by an Assistant District Attorney or the Director of the Training Unit.

Job Responsibilities:

As an SNP Summer Intern, you will have opportunities to work with our staff to gain insight on how a prosecutor’s office in a major urban area functions. You will assist prosecutors as they prepare for hearings and trials in their criminal cases. You also will have the opportunity to observe SNP’s Alternative to Incarceration program, where defendants suffering from drug addiction participate in drug treatment as an alternative to a prison term. In addition, you will attend court proceedings and report to SNP’s Public Information Office about the status of those proceedings.

Beyond shadowing prosecutors, SNP summer interns participate in their own specific educational program. This program involves meeting regularly with prosecutors in our office and receiving a “crash course” in criminal law. You will also learn case studies regarding the types of cases this office prosecutes and how they are investigated and prosecuted. Our program will culminate with mock trials, where you will utilize the skills and information you learned over the summer to “try” a narcotics felony case based upon an actual case prosecuted by SNP.

Eligibility:

  • Selected candidates will have to pass a background check prior to the start of the internship.
  • Demonstrated interest in public service. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
