YSS Treatment Interns have the opportunity to work with a diverse and committed team while gaining valuable experience in both independent and collaborative work. YSS staff are passionate about serving others and making a difference in the communities and lives of the youth and families we serve and are ready to provide a quality learning experience. Each Intern has an identified supervisor, and numerous colleagues, who provides feedback, guidance, assistance, and support. Supervision is focused on integrating classroom knowledge with authentic application in a professional work setting, putting theory into daily practice.
Upon completion you will be proficient in:
- completing assessments and treatment plans.
- utilizing multiple treatment modalities with children, adolescents, and adults.
- providing trauma informed treatment and crisis resolution
- performing professional, real-world, field work.
- using electronic medical records systems.
As a YSS Intern, you will have a remarkable impact on the community while gaining valuable experience to build your resume, extend your professional network and jump start your career. Having worked directly with YSS clients and experienced professionals in the field of behavioral health, you will be prepared to obtain employment in a variety of settings; maybe even a full-time role at YSS!
Under the supervision of a licensed clinician, the Social Work Intern assists the YSS Clinician Team in advancing the YSS mission by:
- Shadowing licensed professionals and applying learned classroom theory to on-the-job practical experience.
- Developing therapeutic client relationships and conducting comprehensive client assessments. Reviewing assessment outcomes and client needs.
- Establishing specific treatment outcomes, including goals and objectives, in collaboration with the team and the client.
- Advocating for clients. If needed, acting as a mandatory reporter and minor case management.
- Making client referrals, as appropriate, for individual, family, and group therapy services. Referrals may be for other YSS services and/or external community resources.
- Personally, providing individual and family therapy to clients and their family (in coordination with clinical staff). Co-facilitating group therapy, as requested.
- Monitoring progress of provided services and maintaining ongoing frequent contact with others associated with the client, as appropriate, be they YSS staff, family members, outside agencies, etc.
- Providing timely contact to clients, families, or service providers for follow-up or as otherwise needed. Following through until issues are resolved.
- Assisting in crisis intervention as needed. Providing situational assessment, identification of potential solutions and resources, and developing plans for successful resolution of the crisis.
- Maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and appropriate client boundaries
- Communicating with supervisor regarding the applicable Academic Program/ Institution learning criteria. It is the Intern’s responsibility to ensure all requirements are satisfied.
- Participating in all-staff trainings or meetings that are offered during your internship. (Optional, but you are invited.)

MUST HAVES – Required Qualifications
- Masters degree in Psychology or Masters degree in progress..
- Experience working with youth facing substance use and dependency.

- Recovering applicants should have a minimum of two years of continuous sobriety to be considered for this position.
