This internship is for the Summer of 2025.
Overview:
The Information Technology (IT) Intern at BankSouth will provide support to ongoing projects in the IT Department to enhance the security of our systems and increase internal efficiency. They will work closely with our IT Team on impactful assignments to help BankSouth achieve its strategic goals. The selected intern will gain hands-on experience in supporting the technology needs of one of the leading community banks in the nation. This opportunity is ideal for individuals seeking exposure to IT projects and systems supporting the bank while working closely with highly experienced colleagues. Flexible work hours available for up to 29 hours/week.
Responsibilities:
- Build Windows systems
- Assist in our required Enterprise-wide upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
- Review Security & Distribution lists for use and validity. Researching use with Mimecast and following up with list owners for needs.
- Review Active Directory, Asset Inventory and Endpoint Protection to reconcile Active Inventory
- Exposure to Network Monitoring Service
- Review Network ActiveNonactive wall ports and document and possibly remove cross connects.
- Review switch configurations to bring some consistency where possible and note invalid configuration lines.
- Work with Scanning solution to review Windows Vulnerabilities, research those vulnerabilities and address them accordingly
Key Results Areas:
- Provide day to day support in a timely manner for Incidents and Change tickets
- Provide updates and project status
- Perform troubleshooting and review for networking and system performance
- Research and Development for Infrastructure projects or remediations
- Direct customer contact for required upgrades
Qualifications
Experience & Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- In progress or recently completed bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, MIS, Computer Science, or other similar/related field

Other Requirements:
Satisfactorily complete all required compliance training and compliance with all laws and regulations that apply based on the scope of this position.
Interpersonal Skills:
Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving and obtaining information, as well as advising or referring, which commonly require shorter discussions.
Physical Requirements:
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in an emergency. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, printers and scanners. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
Working Conditions:
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work environment with moderate noise.
Mental and/or Emotional Requirements:
Must be able to perform job functions independently and with limited supervision. Must work effectively as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under stress of deadline, requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on confidential matters.
