    Job Summary
    The Assistant Superintendent must be a dynamic and creative leader, capable of inspiring and directing multiple operations.  The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for increasing student achievement and community engagement through supervision of multiple departments that serve schools. This assistant superintendent works closely with the superintendent and other assistant superintendents to develop the vision for Granite District schools. The Assistant Superintendent carries out a variety of administrative duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
     
    Essential Functions 

    • Assists the Superintendent in directing and coordinating programs and finances of the school district, working with and for the board of education
    • Assists the Superintendent in providing formulated plans and policies for educational programs to the board of education for approval
    • Assists the Superintendent in implementing programs for selection of school sites, construction of buildings, and provision of equipment and supplies
    • Assists the Superintendent in directing the preparation and presentation of district budgets required to finance the district educational program
    • Interprets program and policies of school-to-school personnel, to individuals, and to other groups
    • Addresses community and parent groups to enlist their support
    • Coordinates district educational efforts with related activities of other school districts and agencies
    • May supervise examining, appointing, training, and promotion of teaching personnel
    • May specialize in areas, such as personnel services, curriculum development, or business administration

    Required Education, Training and Qualifications

    • Applicant must have a current Utah Administrative/Supervisory License
    • Requires a Utah State Board of Education cleared criminal background check 

    Required Prior Experience

    • Applicant must have minimum three years of successful head building principal experience

    Preferred Experience

    • Head building principal experience at multiple levels (elementary, jr. high, high school)
    • Five or more years of successful teaching experience in elementary, secondary or special education  

    Assigned Decision Making – Assists superintendent in coordinating district educational efforts with related activities of other school districts and agencies.

    Non-Supervisory Interaction

    • Interacts and collaborates with employees, board members, patrons, vendors, administrators and secretaries in schools.
    • Works with various department secretaries, coordinators, managers and directors.
    • Works positively and collaboratively with District departments including administrators and secretaries.
    • Works with employees for certifications of time worked.
    • Interacts with community partners to implement programing and secure donations for program student incentives.
    • Strong interpersonal skills along with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people.
    • Able to create and support a team-based environment between divisions and within the assigned departments.

    Supervisory Responsibility

    • Department directors and department personnel assigned to division

    Budget Responsibility 

    • Assists Superintendent in directing the preparation, management and presentation of district budgets required to finance the operation of district efforts.

    Working Environment

    • Work takes place in a typical district office and school environment.
    • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
