About the Role: 
 
Step into the world of golf administration as a P.J. Boatwright Jr. Intern with the Championships & Golf Operations team! This part-time, seasonal internship offers a unique opportunity to engage with over 300 event days annually, including Championships, Qualifiers, One-Day Series, Team Play, and Member Outings.
 
In this role, you’ll work closely with the Manager to help coordinate and execute these events, gaining practical experience in the field while supporting our commitment to educating SCGA members and clubs about the Rules of Golf. This internship is the perfect launching pad for anyone looking to build a career in golf administration while contributing to a vibrant golfing community.
 
This part-time internship offers 20 to 30 hours of work per week and is expected to last approximately 7 months. The compensation for the role is $22.00 per hour.
 
What You’ll Do: 
Field Events
  • Act as the primary contact and on-site liaison for SCGA/CGA/USGA qualifiers, One-Day Series tournaments, and Member Outings throughout Southern California.
  • Perform pre-tournament site visits to ensure readiness and coordination.
  • Coordinate extensively with host facility personnel to facilitate event logistics.
  • Oversee golf course setup to ensure compliance with tournament standards.
  • Prepare player pairings, information sheets, local rules, and volunteer assignments.
  • Provide on-site supervision during events to ensure smooth operations.
  • Manage and coordinate numerous volunteers at each event.
  • Assist fellow staff members at various championships, qualifiers, and tournaments as needed.
General Administration
  • Provide internal support for all aspects of event administration, including handling incoming phone calls, emails, and other communications from participants and members.
  • Maintain and update Golf Genius software to support tournament operations.
  • Assist with departmental projects and initiatives as required.
Interdepartmental Collaboration
  • Support SCGA’s core services by collaborating on membership and member services initiatives, course rating, and public affairs activities.
What You’ll Need: 
  • Bachelor’s degree (or currently pursuing) preferred.
  • Strong interest and understanding of golf preferred.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in identifying and resolving problems promptly.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with SCGA stakeholders, volunteers, members, facility operators, and program participants.
  • Ability to integrate diverse viewpoints while collaborating with staff, volunteers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to deliver compelling group presentations.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to improve quality and enhance productivity while working within approved budgets.
  • Develops strategies to achieve organizational objectives and effectively prioritizes and plans work activities.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate in completing tasks, demonstrating a strong work ethic and self-direction.
  • Consistently meets departmental productivity and quality standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
