General Statement of Duties PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A SPRING SEMESTER INTERNSHIP WHICH WILL START IN FEBRUARY 2025
The participant will gain valuable learning and work experience in areas such as community development, transportation planning, downtown redevelopment, and general local government operations.-
Distinguishing Features of the Class Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned to the Department and areas of interest highlighted by the selected candidate. The intern will benefit from hands-on experience with the following ongoing projects and activities: overhaul of the Town’s Unified Development Ordinance, downtown redevelopment projects, transportation planning (with a focus on Safe Routes to Schools), attainable housing and community development programming, annexations, rezoning, data analysis and mapping, permitting, and plan review. General planning assistance, mapping, administrative, presentation creation, site visits, and other items related to local government planning activities.

Minimum Education and Experience Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Planning, Public Administration, Architecture, Urban Studies, Environmental Science, GIS, or related field. Some experience with ArcGIS is preferred.
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license preferred.
