The Audio Engineer is responsible for overseeing all audio operations at Spectrum Center, ensuring high-quality sound for NBA games, concerts and special events. This position requires expertise in live sound engineering, maintenance of audio equipment and the ability to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors. The Audio Engineer ensures a seamless audio experience for fans, performers and broadcasters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Event Support:
- Design, setup and operate audio systems for NBA games, concerts and other events.
- Ensure broadcast-quality sound for live games, press conferences and in-house productions.
- Mix and balance sound levels for music, commentary and other audio sources during events.
- Collaborate with artists, production teams and broadcast engineers to meet event-specific audio needs.
Technical Operations:
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of audio equipment, including consoles, speakers, amplifiers, microphones and cabling.
- Configure and manage wireless frequency coordination for microphones and in-ear monitors.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all audio equipment and recommend upgrades as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with industry and safety standards for all audio setups.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the Game Presentation team to integrate audio elements into game-day production.
- Support corporate and community events by providing audio expertise.
- Communicate technical requirements to artists, performers and their crews during concerts.
- Coordinate with video production, lighting and facilities teams to ensure seamless event execution.
Training and Documentation:
- Train staff on basic audio equipment usage and best practices.
- Develop and maintain documentation for audio systems, including signal flow diagrams and standard operating procedures.
Required Skills, Experience, and Abilities
To perform the job successfully, you should demonstrate the following competencies associated with the essential functions of this job.
- Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Sound Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Dante Level 2 certification or higher.
- Certified Audio Engineer (CEA) or related certifications.
- OSHA or similar safety training certification.
- Experience working with professional audio systems, such as JBL, QSC, Reidel, Crestron, Shure, Yamaha, Avid and DiGiCo
- 3+ years of experience in live sound engineering, preferably in large venues or arenas.
- Familiarity with concert touring protocols and NBA game-day operations is a plus.
- Expertise in operating large-format audio consoles and digital signal processors (DSPs).
- Strong knowledge of acoustics and audio signal flow.
- Proficient in frequency management and wireless coordination.
- Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift and move heavy audio equipment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust and relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays
