Communications Intern Summary

Provides support for members of the Communications Department before, during, and immediately following the 2025 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This includes working on media lists, identifying stories, pulling photographs and contacts as well as writing blog posts for the website.

Pre-Show: (January 2nd – February 28th)

  • Media Relations: working with the communications team to find the most up to date and accurate contacts for all media, identify new contacts to reach out to and help create a more robust database/list.
  • Writing: Write blog posts about a variety of topics which will be posted throughout the 23 days of the event. Research and find new ideas. Writing will begin in January and continue throughout the Rodeo.
  • Assist Communications Department with credentials, review and sorting.
  • Work with Communications Director on Rookie Roundup.
  • Assist in Rodeo prep: order and request signage when needed.
  • Support media center team with anything they may need from organizing and setting up to coordinating media.

Showtime: February 27th � March 23rd

  • Responsible for finding story ideas.
  • Assist Communications Department with media coordination.
  • Deliver and order signage for events such as Media Suite Night.
  • Sorting, and labeling photos from CSS photographer each morning (meet and greets and daily events).
  • Sorting and uploading photos to media folders for easy access each night.
  • Assist Communications team with Media Suite Night event for select media leadership. This includes set up and oversight of all logistics needed to make this event successful.

Post Show: March 24th -April 1

  • Will be requested to help as needed.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
  • Must have experience with writing AND PR is preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Products, with particular emphasis on Excel. Must be knowledgeable in photography.
  • Weekends, nights, and long hours are required.

Education and/or Experience

Must currently be pursuing a Bachelor�s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related degree or a recent graduate with a Bachelor�s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related degree.
