NFL Summer Internship Program participants have the opportunity to contribute to the organization’s success while receiving an unmatched, behind-the-scenes learning experience. Though interns work within specific departments, they can explore all aspects of the business of professional football through challenging project assignments, speaker presentations, mentoring relationships, and networking opportunities. 

The summer program covers a minimum of 10 weeks, from June 9 – August 15, 2025.  Interns will be required to work five (5) full days (approximately 40 hours) per week. Interns will be paid an hourly rate for their work. 

Application Deadline: Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, December 20 at 11:59 PM EST. No exceptions will be made for those who miss the application deadline.

EDUCATION: Undergraduate junior graduating Winter 2025 or Spring 2026 with a minimum GPA of at least 3.0. Academic transcripts (official or unofficial) will be requested 

QUALIFICATIONS:

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONS: 

BROADCASTING 

The Broadcasting Summer Intern will assist NFL Broadcasting department with programming and gameday operations projects, ratings research and analysis, screening of video content, editing of seasonal resource materials, and other offseason projects as needed 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with game schedule related research projects 
  • Manage updating and delivering the 2024 Broadcast Fact Book 
  • Analyze competitive programming, sponsor integration and commercial formats 
  • Assist in preparing documents for summer meetings with network partners 
  • Work as Broadcast Compliance Screener for preseason local games 

BRAND MARKETING

The Brand Marketing intern will support key campaigns and projects that sustain NFL brand affinity and fandom throughout the offseason, and that lay the foundation for brand visibility during the regular season. The intern will gain experience and an overview across several areas of the NFL’s brand marketing work, with a focus on Events/League Tentpoles. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Support marketing campaign planning for the launch of the 2025 Fan of the Year campaign, including creative reviews, integrated marketing plans, and messaging development. Lead communication with key internal stakeholders such as Sponsorship and Club Business Development.  
  • Support marketing campaign planning for Training Camp and Preseason, including review and approval of creative assets, media plans, marketing messaging, and more. 
  • Provide support as needed for any additional Global brand campaigns, including compiling campaign briefing materials, aggregating campaign support plans from internal and external partners, and building any required recaps. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Education/experience in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Media, or a similar field. 

CLUB LABOR & FINANCE

The Club & Labor Finance Summer Intern will gain an understanding of business and economics of the Clubs and League as well as a more in-depth understanding of the CBA  

 Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with preparation of Agreed Upon Procedure audit workpapers to satisfy CBA NFLPA audit requirements   
  • Assist with preparation for NFLPA Club audits and NFLPA League audits by reviewing workpapers and PwC debriefing memos   
  • Assist in expanding the financial data housed within the Labor/Club Finance Database Cube  
  • Assist in the preparation of ad hoc presentations to Senior Management, NFL team owners and/or the Finance Committee  
  • Compile, analyze and forecast Club and National revenue, to assist in the process of setting the salary cap  

Preferred Qualifications: experience/major or minor in accounting or finance 

COMMUNICATIONS

The Communications & Public Affairs department is the NFL’s voice to the public and the media. This department is responsible for publicizing all of the activities involving the NFL domestically and internationally, including games, clubs, players and sponsors as well as the leagues’ business initiatives and its commitment to health and safety. 

Responsibilities:

  • Write and edit media materials (press releases, pitches, media lists, media plans).  
  • Brainstorm on storytelling ideas surrounding executive interview opportunities.  
  • Assist with the creation of league-wide publications, including the NFL Kickoff Guide and Black Book. 
  • Writing and research assignments for NFL news releases.  
  • Begin to build media relationships with key contacts across the sports lifestyle and sports business space, and assist with efforts to deepen relationships with members of the media.  
  • Monitor press coverage and create media briefings that are distributed to league personnel.

  • Major/coursework: Communications and/or Sport Management 

COMMUNITY RELATIONS & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY 

The Summer Intern will support the Community Relations/Social Responsibility department’s League cause initiatives (NFL PLAY 60, Crucial Catch, Salute to Service, and Inspire Change); including work connected to the NFL Foundation.    

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all NFL Community Relations social media accounts and post weekly community outreach events to drive awareness to key league cause initiatives (NFL PLAY 60, Crucial Catch, Salute to Service, and Inspire Change)   
  • Coordinate a virtual or in-person community event for NFL employees alongside the NFL Community Teammates group  
  • Participate in internal department and external NFL partner meetings to support the League’s cause initiative partnerships and programming for the upcoming 2025 NFL season  
  • Keep inventory of community donations that will support non-profit organizations   
  • Be a team player that supports the Community Relations Department with various projects connected to the League’s cause initiatives; including the NFL Foundation.  

Qualifications:

  • Preferred interest in community outreach, philanthropy, communications, non-profit work, and strategic business planning.   
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint

CONSUMER PRODUCTS

The Consumer Products department is the NFL’s way to deepen fans connection to their team through product and partnerships. Team product serves as fans’ tangible connection to their team and gives them immense pride and social connectivity. In this department, we work with licensees (those making product), key retailers, influencers, and more in order to innovative and reach fans, while amplifying the brand through high quality product and retail experiences.   

The group is comprised of Licensing, Onfield & Product Development, Retail & eCommerce, Marketing, Emerging Products and Gaming. Intern will be integral in supporting continued revenue growth through assistance in marketing, gaming, licensing, onfield, and/or retail programs.  

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Consumer Products team in data analysis requests to better understand the business. 
  • Support summer campaign photoshoots by working with Retail, Marketing, Creative, and Licensees. Includes product shipments, shot lists, etc.  
  • Identify whitespace opportunity for Consumer Products and build a presentation that the intern will ultimately present to the full team. Can include industry, technical, and social trends that should be embraced.  
  • Analyze consumer insights data to create retail and licensee specific content to share 
  • Help identify white space opportunities in licensing, collaborations, and retail to further grow business. 
  • Support marketing programs with partners including NFL Shop, Key Retailers, and Key Licensees.  
  • Work cross-functionally with groups including Social, Network, Marketing, Events, and PR to amplify CP and licensee marketing programs  
  • Consolidate information across campaigns and events to create recap decks

CORPORATE FINANCE

The Corporate Finance summer intern will spend time in various functions throughout the finance organizationStarting in the Controller’s office, our intern will assist with our quarterly close cycle, AR/AP processes and balance sheet reconciliations. Next, the intern will work hand-in-hand with the operational finance team where they will evaluate various departments across the organization to understand their year-to-date performance, prepare for the next quarterly re-forecast and ensure payments are made/received properly. Lastly, the intern will sit with our FP&A department where they will learn how we consolidate our business, perform variance, ad hoc analysis, KPI tracking and create presentations for senior management. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Controller’s Office
    • Assist staff with: the quarterly accounting close cycle, contract review, procurement, customer billing/cash application, and balance sheet reconciliations

FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT

The Football Development intern will assist in project-based work that supports the mission to drive flag and tackle participation at the youth & high school levels. This individual will also assist with the implementation of strategic planning and programming that impacts youth, high school, and college athletes. Through coordination with current NFL programs, NFL clubs, and football partners, s/he will be responsible for assisting the department’s efforts with all stakeholders and organizations. S/he will also execute youth football and college relations related events at NFL venues.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Update annual youth & high school football participation data dashboard  
  • Prepare metrics and reporting for NFL College Outreach programming and initiatives  
  • Plan and attend youth & high school events at Hall of Fameand NFL FLAG Championships in July   
  • Attend and create agendas for all Football Development led meetings  
  • Assist with all PlayFootball broadcast initiatives, social, and digital platforms  
  • Collaborate with youth staff to complete special projects for league partners  
  • Process invoices and assist in budget forecasting  

Qualifications: 

  • Current work with a university’s athletic department, football team, operations & logistics, college game day events, or high school outreach is preferred  
  • Prior internships in a sports-related field  

FOOTBALL STRATEGY & PIPELINE DEVELOPMENT 

NFL Football Operations works to honor the game’s rich traditions and position the sport for long-term success. This intern will be tasked with supporting the mission of Football Operations by researching, analyzing, and executing strategies across the department, maintaining strong partnerships, and monitoring risk management plans. Football Operations is composed of five departments: Football Administration, Game, Officiating, Player Operations, and Football Business Strategy.  

Responsibilities:  

  • Assist with NFL Football Exposure initiatives including, but not limited to, the Quarterback Coaching Summit, General Manager Forum, Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, and Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellowship  
  • Assist with ideation and analysis for new football mobility efforts and innovation initiatives  
  • Support the planning of strategic key cross-organizational programming  
  • Track & report emerging technologies for the future of football  
  • Assist planning/execution of domestic Flag Football Initiatives  
  • Assist with the improvement and creation of new and existing strategic initiatives that advance department objectives 
  • Provide support to verticals including, but not limited to, planning, organizing, tracking, and executing budgets and logistics for initiatives  
  • Support creating deliverables, presentation materials and reporting analysis to Club executive stakeholders

HUMAN RESOURCES 

The NFL is looking for an intern to join our Human Resources team in New York City. The successful individual will leverage their budding proficiency in Human Resources to work within our Talent Acquisition, Talent Development and HR Business Partner teams. This internship will provide exposure to talent sourcing, talent mapping, project management, and internal hiring processes. The internship will also provide a strong foundational knowledge of recruiting operations, learning and development, and internal stakeholder management.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in key initiatives and projects with the Talent Acquisition team that will continuously improve our recruiting operations  
  • Support the NFL’s entry-level program sourcing strategy   
  • Support workshops, focus groups, and other employee events by preparing and collating materials, contracts, and calendar information  
  • Conduct learning needs analysis across departments and analyzes data to determine learning needs  
  • Curate and update content on the organizational learning page  
  • Assist in creating communications for the learning and development department  
  • Support the HR Business Partner team and gain exposure to HR Generalist responsibilities including the various disciplines within the HR department  
  • Research and report on best practices in human resources, talent management, learning and development, employee experience, or other areas

IT 

NFL IT is seeking a well-rounded, thoughtful intern to join our Office of the CIO team. Our ideal intern is talented, energetic, and self-motivated. This individual will work closely with IT VP of OCIO on supporting key technology projects.  

Responsibilities:   

  • Member of Project Management Office to support two IT projects in Enterprise and Football solution
  • Organize, attend, and participate in stakeholder meetings. 
  • Documenting and follow up on important actions and decisions from meetings. 
  • Collaborating on resource management with internal project team. 
  • Preparing necessary presentation materials for meetings. 
  • Maintaining and tracking program key timelines 
  • Maintaining and tracking project budget   

LIVE EVENTS STRATEGY & OPERATIONS 

The Events department is responsible for the strategic planning and production of the NFL’s largest events, including the Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, Draft, Kickoff, and Combine. The department also manages many key smaller meetings and events throughout the year. The group oversees everything from event location selection all the way through on-site operations. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in event strategy, allowing you to contribute to the success of diverse events while honing your skills in a collaborative and dynamic environment. 

The Event Strategy Intern will support the team in identifying growth initiatives to acquire, engage, and retain fans from all over the world. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Take on Summer long strategic project aimed at growing and developing the NFL Events business 
  • Support event location/bid strategy group in location negotiations 
  • Work with Events operations team on a variety of key off-season planning projects  
  • Lead data & analytics projects, including annual Events Business Report 
  • Contribute creative and innovative ideas to enhance event experiences, staying on top of emerging trends in the events industry.

  • Conduct In-Depth Analysis of Growth Audiences 
  • Mine current data to help deepen understanding of the NFL’s growth audiences, including analyzing media behaviors, free-time priorities, motivations for becoming a fan, and drivers to deepen fandom. 
  • Collaborate closely with the fan development team to identify gaps in our knowledge about our growth audiences.

MEDIA DISTRIBUTION   

The NFL Media Distribution team is a small, but highly visible team that works to determine the strategy behind the deployment of key content rights. This team executes partnerships across a range of business models and structures, with a focus on live game streaming and related licensing. This team also contributes to the strategic direction of the NFL’s owned and operated media assets (e.g., the NFL App, NFL Channel) and leads cross-functional planning and strategic efforts on special projects for NFL Media executives. Specific activities include execution and partnership management, market and competitive analysis, business and rights valuation, and go-to-market strategy and deal negotiation. The department’s activities and accomplishments have contributed to the growth and success of the National Football League by distributing content in a manner that reaches and engages both new and existing fans, increases revenue for the business, and creates long-term strategic value for the 32 member clubs.  

The Summer Intern will assist the team in managing a portfolio of existing partnerships, supporting active deal discussions, and working to track key season-readiness deliverables. The Summer Intern will get exposure to NFL Senior Leadership and will have the opportunity to work cross-organizationally with many departments including Broadcasting, Business Development, Sponsorship, Affiliate, Media Sales, Legal, Marketing, and NFL Digital Media Product & Engineering teams.  

Responsibilities

PLAYER ENGAGEMENT  

The Summer Intern is responsible for assisting the Player Engagement staff with matters related to the planning and execution of meetings, initiatives, and programs. The Summer Intern will work across the Player Engagement and Player Operations teams while reporting to the Sr. Director. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Draft, edit, and prepare presentations (PowerPoint) 
  • Assist in planning and organizing of the Player Engagement Steering Committee meeting 
  • Aid in the administration, tracking, and reporting of mandatory programming  
  • Provide support for each of the pillar programs and initiatives 
  • Maintain continuing education data 
  • Assist with veteran player financial education seminars 
  • Assist with the professional development program 
  • Assist with the Head of Player Engagement Development 
  • Assist with database management to update profiles and rosters for accurate education, contact, and participation information

PLAYER PERSONNEL 

The Player Personnel department is a division of the NFL Management Council and works very closely with the Football Operations department. Player Personnel serves a crucial function in preserving and enhancing the integrity of the game by managing the League’s personnel rules objectively and without prejudice. 

The department’s responsibilities include: monitoring club compliance with the NFL Constitution & Bylaws and the Collective Bargaining Agreement, including, but not limited to: overseeing daily club player personnel activities such as signings, waiver requests, roster limits, trades, and related-salary cap transactions; enforcing the league’s injury reporting policy; overseeing the league’s college scouting rules, researching player’s draft eligibility; presiding over the selection of players at the Draft, and administering and monitoring of club employment agreements and the NFL anti-tampering policy with regard to players, coaches, and administrators. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Reviewing, processing, and analysis of player and non-player transactions, contracts, and related information. 
  • Proofreading and editing Player Personnel documents (e.g. personnel notice, memos, manuals, policies, and directories). 
  • Interaction with club and league executives, players, agents, and fans. 
  • Various research and statistical projects. 
  • Assisting with training camp administration and planning 
  • Assisting with the department’s document management process. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Major/coursework: Sports Management, Data Analytics, Compliance, Scouting/Recruiting 
  • Prior experience working in a college athletic department or pro sports league as an administrator or athlete 
  • An interest and skillset in data analytics 

SPONSORSHIP  

The Sponsorship intern will support the Partnerships group (e.g., New Business, Strategy, Partnership Management). The 10-week program will provide the Sponsorship intern a holistic view of the business.    

Responsibilities: 

  • The Sponsorship intern will support the group in the following ways:   
  • Partnership Management: Day-to-day support on select accounts (e.g., DraftKings, Microsoft)  
  • Partnership Management: Preparation for NFL Kickoff – serving as a lead for internal communication on key assets and packages  
  • New Business: Custom pitches for prospective partners  
  • Sponsorship strategy: Conduct research on potential new sponsors or other competing sports leagues  

Salary / Pay Range
