Math Teacher (High School), Charlotte Lab School | 2024-2025

Hours: Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 7:40am-3:40pm

Contract End Date:  June 13, 2025

Responsibilities

The Charlotte Lab School Teacher will have responsibilities in support of Lab’s instructional vision:

  • Design & deliver personalized and engaging curriculum aligned to the NC Standard Course of Study;
  • Use the Workshop Model to facilitate instruction for students in whole class, small, and differentiated groups;
  • Write and execute interdisciplinary challenge-based curriculum aligned with Lab’s “Quest” model;
  • Integrate technology into daily classroom instruction when relevant;
  • Collect, analyze, and utilize formative assessment to inform instructional decisions and practices;
  • Evaluate & assess students using standards based learning progressions; 
  • Support students’ metacognitive development by including them in self-assessment and self-reflection activities;
  • Monitor student progress through tracking of content mastery, Lab’s defined work habits, and student learning portfolios;
  • Communicate frequently and regularly with families of students, for both academic and behavior-related reasons, both positive and when needing assistance;
  • Participate actively in Lab’s community activities, in support of Lab’s instructional, community-building, fundraising, family recruitment, and hiring efforts;
  • Participate actively in ongoing professional development and teacher evaluation process;
  • Supervise students and maintain a clean, orderly, safe, print-rich and positive classroom learning environment;
  • Take on other responsibilities as needed, and as assigned, to ensure student and school success.

Charlotte Lab School Teacher will also have responsibilities in support of Lab’s vision for students’ social-emotional learning:

  • Serve as an advisor to a small group of students; in this role:
    • Deliver a social-emotional skills curriculum;
    • Develop deep relationships with students in your advisory;
    • Develop and implement activities to build community within the advisory;
    • Serve as an advocate for advisees, for both academic and disciplinary reasons;
    • Provide regular updates and communication with advisees’ families;
    • Guide advisees in the preparation of their Student-Led Conferences each trimester;
    • Operate as liaison between advisees’ families and the school.

Qualifications

Candidates MUST:

  • Be able/willing to learn how to fulfill the responsibilities listed above;
  • ​Hold a Bachelor’s degree from a four year institution;
  • Demonstrate experience in, or passion for, teaching diverse populations.

In addition, the Lab School Leadership Team will look favorably upon candidates who:

TEACHER PREPARATION:

  • Are fully licensed or willing to obtain North Carolina  K-5, 6-8 and/or 9-12 teacher licensure;
  • Have a least 2 years of full-time teaching experience;
  • Have experience teaching relevant grade range and content area;
  • Have an advanced degree in a related field;
  • Have comfort with technology and experience with Google Suite;
  • Possess strong classroom management skills;
  • Are exceptionally organized and have ability to prioritize effectively and meet competing deadlines;
  • Have experience with standards based grading;
  • Have dual-certification to teach a core content area and:
    • Exceptional Children 
    • Academically Gifted students 
    • English as a Second Language;

Compensation

Charlotte Lab School offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience and education level using our compensation rubric. All salaries are determined pending verification of experience by our Finance/HR divisions and Board of Directors budget approval. Please note the following regarding use of the rubric:

  • Assistant, instructional, dean and counselor salaries (Grades 1-4) are determined based on 1 year credit for 1 year of teaching and/or other relevant experience. Increased pay for advanced degrees (which may include specialized leadership programs or certifications) is indicated above and paid on the basis on completion of qualifying programs.
  • Leadership salaries (Grades 5 and above) are determined based on 1 year credit for 1 year of leadership experience, and .5 year credit for each year of teaching experience. Advanced degrees are assumed, so not considered in this scale. 

The position also includes medical insurance for the employee, with voluntary dental and vision plans, and spouse/family coverage. Lab also provides access to a Flexible Spending Account for health and childcare expenses and an opportunity to contribute to a 403b retirement plan. Employees have the opportunity to earn 10 PTO days each year (1/month). Full time Charlotte Lab School faculty members also receive priority in the student admissions process.
