Our Project Delivery Group (PDG) helps clients with world-class project delivery from studies to building assets, operating the assets, and developing efficiencies through our people, methodologies, governance, and systems. Our engineering and project management and construction disciplines ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable delivery of projects globally across the metals and mining, infrastructure, and energy sectors.

 

Hatch is currently seeking a Civil/Structural Engineering Intern to join our team in the Pittsburgh, PA office. We are looking for students that enjoy working with people in a team environment, strive for excellence, and understand innovation.

 

The position will allow candidates to directly apply and develop their knowledge in structural steel and concrete design for heavy industrial structures. In addition to theoretical design and analytical work, candidates will gain valuable real-world experience and work closely with experienced engineers who will provide guidance and mentoring.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Assisting with developing project scopes, engineering estimates, capital cost estimates and developing repair methodologies.
  • Use the application of Civil/ Structural engineering principles to provide efficient, effective, economical and timely solutions to design problems in a multidiscipline project environment.
  • Application of innovative engineering solutions.
  • Engineering design of repairs to structures or components.
  • Working independently evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Must be currently enrolled in and pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Candidates with previous Heavy Industrial Internship or Co-op experience is an asset. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Aptitude for working on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to achieving engineering excellence.
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to various practical problems.
  • A desire to learn and continually develop.
  • Strong personal commitment to safety.
