Job Description
1.  Oversees the advancement and growth of the program. Gives direction and leadership supporting the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives. Assumes primary accountability for disseminating and publishing all program information to create public awareness and support of the program. 2.  Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans. 3.  Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. Develops the metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. Responsible for measurements of grant success and related evaluation. 4.  Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. Develops and manages the program’s operating budget. 5.  Develops the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs. 6.  Investigates, identifies, implements, and oversees the maintenance of systems to gather, track, and report information to support the initiatives of the program. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. 7.  Initiates, designs, and manages the compilation of program communications; identifying outreach potential, and promoting philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. Contributes to the development and assists in the management of content on the program’s website and monitors all changes and additions to the editorial content. 8.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and four years of related demonstrated experience or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience.

Position Focus:
The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) serves as a primary campus resource for international students, scholars, and their families, fostering a sense of community by offering orientation for new arrivals and hosting programs and activities year-round. This position collaborates with campus and community colleagues, including student organizations and the International Spouses and Partners at Yale (ISPY), on a range of programs and initiatives; oversees the International Programming Fund (IPF), and supervises one or more student workers and coordinates the relationship with McDougal International fellows. The International Community Engagement Specialist is also involved in developing a communication strategy using social media outlets and the OISS website and newsletter.

Develops, implements, and manages programs that provide support to, develop community among, and ensure the best possible experience for Yale’s international student and scholar community. Identifies and builds partnerships with university and community entities in the development of programs. Evaluates programs for effectiveness.

Assists in planning, coordinating, and implementing the pre-arrival and orientation programs and communications that ease the transition to the university for newly arrived international students and scholars. 

Develops programs that utilize the International Center and contribute to the feeling that the International Center is a home away from home for students and scholars. Provides guidance and programmatic support to spouses and partners at Yale. Serves as liaison to international and intercultural student groups and develops programs that both utilize the center and promote intercultural understanding. Administers the International Program Fund.

Research, design, and implement innovative solutions and tools for better communication with our international community. Assists in content development on programs/events and Life at Yale pages on the OISS website and oversees the preparation of the weekly OISS e-Newsletter, social media channels, and other office communications.

Supervises the work of OISS student workers and coordinates the work of and co-supervises the McDougal International Fellows. Assists the Associate Director of Engagement, Assessment, and Operations in OISS wide assessment efforts.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Demonstrated success in developing programs to support an international community. Demonstrated success in web editing and social media design. Understanding of cultural, social, and personal transitions faced with international populations.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Demonstrated experience working in intercultural program development and with international students and scholars; familiarity with U.S. immigration/tax regulations; understanding of cross-cultural issues.

Required Skill/Ability 3:
Proven ability to supervise and lead. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required Skill/Ability 4:
Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage/prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to update and manage web content. Ability to use social networking tools.

Required Skill/Ability 5:
Bachelor’s Degree and at least three years of proven experience of progressively responsible experience in intercultural program development, as well as proven experience working with international students and scholars, preferably in a higher education setting, or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience.
