Description

Trinity Episcopal School is seeking a Visual Arts Teacher for its Kindergarten through fourth grade classes for the Spring 2025 semester.  The Art Teacher is a member of the faculty and the Art department and reports directly to the Head of Lower School.  This full-time position is primarily responsible for planning and instruction for lower school enrichment classes which follow the Teaching Artistic Behavior pedagogy.  Additional responsibilities include collaborating with the Art department for the overall implementation of the visual arts program, including the annual Spring Arts Festival and other opportunities for students to share their art in public spaces.  The Art Teacher supports the work of the School by promoting the mission, values, and policies of Trinity Episcopal School.

 

Primary Responsibilities: The Lower School Art Teacher’s primary responsibilities include the following: 

  • Teach the Kindergarten through Fourth Grade Art classes
    • Lead and teach the visual arts classes in these grades 
    • Prepare students for all student visual arts displays, including the  Spring Arts Festival and all other visual art opportunities, as required and determined by the School
    • Review and help develop the K-8 art education curriculum
    • Communicate expectations and program goals to students, faculty, parents, and community members
    • Maintain a current art materials inventory and update as needed
    • Collaborate and work closely with the Visual Arts Director as part of a K-8 team
    • Provide formal and informal feedback to students and parents regarding the experience and progress of children
  • Actively participate in professional organizations that foster and support art education
  • Become involved in the mission and life of the school beyond the primary responsibilities outlined
  • All other duties as required by the Head of Lower School/Assistant Head of School.

Education and Work Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in a school setting teaching general art to lower school students using developmentally appropriate materials and techniques
  • Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in Art or Art education or related field with knowledge or experience with the Teaching Artistic Behaviors approach preferred

Skills and Qualifications

  • Pedagogical understanding of children in the elementary grades
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, writing, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to be a self-starter and initiator, and ability to work independently and effectively on a team
