Bachelors-Level Intern (School-Based)

Job Summary and Purpose

 Tennyson Center for Children is seeking qualified clinical intern candidates, currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s program, who are looking to complete their senior year internship. Under the guidelines of the university program, the Intern provides direct client support in day treatment classrooms, completes required program documentation, and assists classroom teacher in facilitation of classroom activities.

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Interest in working with children and adolescents who may have had exposure to adverse experiences and/or who may have an intellectual disability, developmental disability, or diagnosis of Autism. 
  • Supports clients in the classroom setting to complete classwork and other essential functioning. 
  • Works collaboratively with school-based Youth Treatment Counselors (YTC’s) to complete daily documentation and meet client needs. 
  • Participates in classroom meetings to discuss client needs and progress. 
  • Maintains the highest standard of cultural competency in all dealings with clients and staff.
  • May facilitate PBIS or other classroom-based activities and groups.  

 

 

Other Job Functions

 

  • Participates in all-agency meetings and training opportunities, as appropriate. 
  • Willingness to employ alternative therapeutic interventions, including but not limited to, art, music, experiential activities, and animal-assisted intervention.
  • Other duties as assigned.

   

 

Physical Requirements

 

  • Ability to implement behavioral management techniques as needed.
  • Must be able to receive detailed information through oral and written communication.
  • Must have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through a computer, electronic devices, and paper means.
  • Must be able to lift 25/50 lbs. or more. 

 

 

 Working Conditions

 

  • Position required to be in-person. Remote work may be approved by intern supervisor. 
  • On-campus, school based, day treatment setting, in-home setting, on-campus, residential setting.
  • Travel may be required dependent upon intern specific program.

 

 

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Currently enrolled in a Human Service related bachelor’s program at an accredited institution.
  • Previous experience working with families and children preferred.  
  • All positions require criminal CBI background check, FBI fingerprint check, State of CO child abuse check, DMV driving record check, pre-employment drug test, pre-employment physical, academic credential verification, and reference check.
