The Manager, Government and International Affairs will assist with representing Westinghouse interests before the U.S. Government (Executive Offices and Agencies) and key third parties (associations, think tanks, non-governmental organizations, foreign government representatives, etc.). Candidates will have a track record of responsible decision making and success in a Government Affairs (or similar/related) function and possess a demonstrated and clear history of excellence and integrity in his/her/their professional history. S/He/They will contribute to a collaborative work environment with colleagues across Westinghouse business units and the government/corporate affairs offices; help to leverage each other’s strengths; and build and maintain a strong network of relationships with both domestic and global policymakers.
At the direction of the Government Affairs team, the incumbent will work with governmental and industry stakeholders to achieve Westinghouse’s trade agenda, promoting civil nuclear exports globally. S/He/They will be a face of the company in Washington, D.C., and will have strong, effective relationships with managers and officials external to Westinghouse.
Additionally, s/he/they will provide support in advancing the company’s public policy agenda by helping to design, implement, and coordinate the company’s strategic direction. Specifically, as it relates to outreach, messaging and engagement with government officials and their staff, third-party allies, and industry partners on specific, high priority initiatives.
Your Day to Day:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Vice President of Government and International Affairs and senior Westinghouse leaders.
- Contribute to developing and implementing effective advocacy strategies for key business priorities requiring U.S. Government advocacy. Ensure the Company is included and present in public policy debates affecting Westinghouse interests and businesses.
Work effectively with Government Relations peers in a high-performing, collaborative team environment. Assist with leveraging Westinghouse’s participation in outside business councils and trade associations.
- Executive-level writing skills are essential. Deliver timely communications (briefing memos, talking points) to internal stakeholders regarding policy developments that could impact the business, ensuring an opportunity to influence outcomes.
- Experience working with the Commerce Department Advocacy Center, as well as familiarity with the interagency team for civil nuclear exports is a plus.
Who You Are:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 5+ years of experience in government or private sector dealing with trade advocacy issues.
- Expertise in dealing with high-profile stakeholders such as elected officials, foreign government officials, executives, and a variety of external constituencies. This includes the ability to influence and navigate the complex political landscape.
- Advanced knowledge of U.S. Government agency policy, including executive agency positions and procedures. Knowledge of energy sector issues a plus.
