Position Summary

Summary

The UNM Prevention Research Center (PRC) is seeking a recent college graduate interested in receiving real-world experience conducting community-engaged prevention research. The Professional Intern position is designed to provide training and experience for a recent college graduate in order to prepare them for a professional position in a field related to health promotion and the prevention of disease and injury. The position will be part of a motivated multi-disciplinary team conducting research studies and evaluation to improve the health and wellbeing of those living in New Mexico. The position will assist the team in all aspects of the projects which focus on increasing physical activity and healthy eating, preventing unintentional injury and violence, and building vaccine confidence. Duties include assisting with data collection using surveys, interviewing and focus groups, managing data, and contributing to the analysis of these data. The position will also contribute to the preparation of materials to communicate and disseminate project findings. The position will also conduct literature reviews and will draft presentations and other dissemination products on various topics. Work will be completed under the supervision of PRC faculty and staff. This position is intended to provide the intern with the skills and knowledge needed to perform the duties of an associate scientist position at the PRC in the future.

 

Duties and responsibilities for this position may include:

  1. Collaborates in the planning and implementation of funded projects as part of the project teams.
  2. Assists with qualitative data collection through listening sessions, focus groups, and semi-structured interviews.
  3. Assists with the collection and management of survey data using REDCap. 
  4. Conducts analyses of qualitative and quantitative data related to the funded projects under the supervision of faculty and senior professional staff. 
  5. Conducts literature reviews to support the development of reports, presentations and manuscripts.  
  6. Prepares presentations, infographics, and other data visualization products to communicate research and evaluation findings under supervision of faculty and senior professional staff.  
  7. Receives guidance, mentoring and training from professional personnel in the conduct of community-engaged prevention research and evaluation.  
  8. Provides other support for data collection and analysis.  
  9. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must present transcripts prior to a formal offer being extended.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University’s influenza vaccination requirement.
  • This is a fixed-term position, typically up to 24 months.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree obtained no earlier than 24 months prior to the date of hire; no previous work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in community-engaged research and prevention research. 
  • Grounding in injury and violence prevention as a public health problem
  • Experience conducting descriptive data analysis.  
  • Working knowledge of NVivo.
  • Experience conducting structured literature reviews.
