The Director of Operations and Advancement for the International Center for Music (ICM) serves as the chief strategic and operational leader for ICM. The Director of Operations and Advancement is responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of the program. The Director of Operations and Advancement works closely with the faculty, staff, and ICM Foundation Board of Directors to fulfill the programs mission and vision, ensuring financial health, enhancing community impact and artistic excellence.
 
Position Accountabilities:
  • Leadership and Strategic Planning:
    1. Develop and implement strategic plans that chart ICM’s vision, growth, and priorities.
    2. Foster a positive organizational culture that promotes high performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    3. Act as the primary spokesperson for the organization, effectively communicating its mission, vision, and value to stakeholders.
    4. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, sponsors, community leaders, and partner organizations.
  • Financial Management:
    1. Develop and manage the ICM’s annual budget in collaboration with the Board of Directors and Chief Advancement Officer.
    2. Oversee financial operations, including budgeting and financial reporting to ensure financial stability and growth.
    3. Identify and pursue diverse revenue streams, including grants, sponsorships, donations, and earned income, in partnership with the Chief Advancement Officer.
  • Fundraising and Development:
    1. In collaboration with the Chief Advancement Officer and Board of Directors, develop and implement fundraising efforts, including individual giving, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, and special events.
    2. Cultivate and steward relationships with existing and potential donors to secure financial support.
  • Program and Artistic Oversight:
    1. Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient and effective management of resources.
    2. Supervise, mentor, and support a diverse team of staff, faculty and volunteers.
    3. Oversee the development and implementation of high-quality programs and performances that align with the program’s mission and goals.
    4. Collaborate with artistic staff to ensure the artistic vision and integrity of the program.
    5. Evaluate and improve program effectiveness, ensuring alignment with community needs and organizational objectives.
  • Board Relations:
    1. Serve as the primary liaison between the staff and the Board of Directors.
    2. Assist in the recruitment, training, and development of Board members.
    3. Provide regular updates to the Board on organizational performance, challenges, and opportunities, in collaboration with University leadership.
    4. Support Board committees and assist with effective governance practices.
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, business administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of senior management experience in a nonprofit organization, preferably in the arts or music sector.
  • Proven track record in fundraising, financial management, and strategic planning.
  • Experience in program development, community engagement, and staff management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with donors, volunteers, and staff at all levels.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience managing budgets and timelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of fundraising software and databases.
  • Passion for the mission of the university and a commitment to higher education.
