School Health Program plays a vital role in supporting the school system. School Nursing is a specialized practice that protects and promotes student health, fosters optimal development, and advances academic success. Our School Nurses are ethical, evidence-based practice leaders bridging the healthcare and education gap. They coordinate care, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems that enable individuals and communities to reach their full potential.

 

Position Summary:

As a School Nurse, you’ll be at the forefront of preventive health services, helping students achieve their physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being. Your role enhances the educational process by improving and safeguarding children’s health. This Position requires a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in North Carolina and a valid North Carolina or South Carolina driver’s license.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Make a Lifesaving Impact: Administer daily and PRN medications and nursing care procedures prescribed by students’ physicians, ensuring their well-being.
  • Empower Young Minds: Develop emergency action plans (EAPs) and individual health plans (IHPs) to support students.
  • Be the Health Advocate: Provide health counseling and education to students, parents, school staff, and others, empowering them with knowledge for healthier lives.
  • Shape the Future: Act as a liaison between the school, home, public health professionals, healthcare providers, and community agencies to create a positive impact.
  • Be a Lifelong Learner: Growth is essential to success. You’ll have opportunities for professional development and the chance to stay updated on the latest in healthcare.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Nursing Experience: A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in child health, school health, public health, home health, or emergency nursing. Active nursing experience within the last five years.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree or higher in nursing from an accredited college.
  • Certifications: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in NC or a Nurse Licensure Compact State. Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) by the American Heart Association (Good for a least 90 days after hire).
  • Current License: To practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in NC issued by the NC Board of Nursing or another Nurse Licensure Compact State.
  • North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License: County Driving Privileges. May require an Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required.
  • Annual Background Check: Mecklenburg County Human Resource reserves the right to conduct background screening annually

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent Experience: Work experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) within the last five years.
  • Mobility: Valid North Carolina or South Carolina driver’s license. A personal vehicle for work or the ability to arrange appropriate transportation is required.
