    1. Educational RequirementsMaster’s Degree and valid Indiana school counselor license

     

    1. Experience: Minimum of five (5) years working as a school counselor, preferable in a high school setting. Preferred financial aid and scholarship program literacy. Working knowledge of Naviance.

    SALARY BENEFITS:         Salary range $52,750-96,000 with an additional $1,700.00 stipend 
     
    ASSIGNED WORKDAYS PER YEAR:  185 Days +19 Additional Days

    GENERAL FUNCTIONS/PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide vision and leadership in the planning, implementation and evaluation of college and career readiness initiatives at the high school level and in coordination with K-8 efforts.
    • The ability to be culturally responsive to students, staff members, parents, and community representatives; understand student development, apply counseling theories and practices; skilled in planning and prioritizing school counseling programming; has effective interpersonal skills including providing feedback; exhibits collaborative skills with administrators and colleagues; reflect on and learn from experiences and receive feedback from others to grow personally and professionally.  

     
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Organize and conduct sessions for all stakeholders in the college and career search, application, financial aid, and other aspects of the college/career selection process.
    • Lead in the assimilation and dissemination of information to all stakeholders regarding career and educational trends and factors affecting the college admissions process. Serve as lead learner on these topics and educate school counselors.
    • Facilitate communication of scholarship opportunities; gather, promote, and communicate details of specific scholarships and scholarship programs.
    • Develop and facilitate a communication strand for students and families regarding financial aid (FAFSA, scholarships, etc.).
    • Establish positive and productive relationships with military, trade/apprenticeship, college admission and financial aid representatives. Organize opportunities for students and families to connect with these representatives.
    • Collect, track, and interpret data to inform and enhance college and career readiness programming to prepare students to pursue and achieve goals beyond high school.
    • Assist with the implementation of Indiana’s Graduation Pathways.
    • Coordinate AP (Advanced Placement) testing, PSAT and SAT administration, and ASVAB testing, as necessary.
    • Promote SAT/ACT participation and test prep opportunities. Help facilitate these test administrations at Avon High School
    • Participate in and help coordinate the Apprenticeship/Trades Fair with Hendrick College Network and county schools.
    • Oversee management of the Naviance system and lead training with families, students, and staff on how this resource is used.
    • Conduct a Summer College Admission Boot Camp.
    • Participate in professional organizations and conferences to promote personal and professional learning in areas of responsibility.
    • Assist in the planning and execution of student recognition events (honor nights, college signing day, graduation, etc.)
    • Be an example of exemplary adult behavior with a genuine concern for student well-being.
    • Be responsible for other duties as assigned by the Principal.

     
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
