Controller, Fiber/Assistant Controller, Corporate

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Other duties may be assigned.

Abide by, enforce and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all company safety standards and regulations.

Provide leadership for the day-to-day operations of the finance & accounting department for the assigned business groups, including but not limited to directing the business group’s accounting and finance operations for statement preparation, internal controls and reviews, financial standards and audits; providing technical assistance to finance and accounting department staff; effectively disseminate financial information, coordinating the timely resolution of accounting issues; managing financial data to ensure accuracy; recommending or developing accounting systems, tools and applications’ managing the effective delivery of fiscal services such as budget support & analysis, cost accounting, fixed assets, etc..

Ensure all business group ledgers and reports are closed in a timely and accurate manner, including but not limited to reviewing account balances, corrections, closing entries and procedures, transactions for accuracy and compliance with policies, state and federal laws.

Review all company and business group financial controls, and propose and implement new and amended control procedures.

Ensure that the business group’s accounting and finance teams are preparing financial information monthly/quarterly/annually using approved company financial reporting tools.

Implement, coordinate and manage internal division audits annually.  Oversee state or agency specific statutory audits in which the company does business.

Interface with external auditors, representatives of local, state and federal agencies, and other external parties in connection with the business group’s financial operations and tax examinations and correspondence, including locating records and documentation, and preparation of supporting schedules, analyses and memoranda as required.

Assist the Corporate Controller with accurate and timely work to facilitate the company’s financial needs.

Build and maintain a qualified team through innovative hiring, management and training/development techniques: Implement and manage recruitment and on boarding processes, as required; Perform staff appraisal and performance review processes in line with company policies; Create and maintain professional development plans for direct reports; Set and manage performance goals, standards and expectations with direct reports in accordance with the company policy.

Stay current on the latest developments such as IRS codes/regulations/guidelines, accounting software enhancements, policies and procedures, GAAP standards, etc.

Develop, plan and implement special projects and compile a variety of special reports as assigned.

Participate in committee or group work to improve financial and/or division/department performance.

Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent; and minimum of five (5) years’ experience in managing an accounting/finance unit with at least fivee (5) years in Public Accounting; or any combination of education, experience and training. CPA license required.

Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Math Ability: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer/Technology Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficiency in the use of: Accounting Software, Data base user interface and query software, Enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, Financial analysis software, and Spreadsheet Software

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This person is responsible for the supervision of supervisors and staff of the finance and purchasing department of the assigned business group.

The primary work location for this job is in a private office but will require some tasks to be performed while in manufacturing and/or warehouse areas.  Occasional travel for meetings and trainings may be required.

This job does not regularly require the use of the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The associate is required to wear PPE when entering manufacturing and warehouse areas, restricted areas, or areas designated with specific PPE requirements.
