SUMMARY
The Internal Communications Specialist will assist the Director, Internal Communications with the communications strategy as it pertains to Rodeo staff and the 35,000 volunteers that serve on Rodeo committees. The successful incumbent will assist the Director in preparing and executing informative and timely communications which will engage staff and volunteers resulting in an improved experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Communications
Assist in writing creative content to maximize engagement of volunteers and staff.
Manage videography assignments and scheduling with contract videography crew during Showtime and year-round.
Collaborate with marketing, external comms, public relations, social media and graphics departments, as needed, to ensure alignment and consistency of messaging.
Assist in the review and editing of committee-related documents and communications for volunteers and staff as needed.
Create electronic newsletters to engage and inform staff and volunteers on a regular basis.
Manage internal round table discussion sessions with staff and executive office.
Committee Support
Manage the production of the Show�s quarterly �Bowlegged H� Magazine. Serves as the coordinator of the Magazine Committee; manages the layout, story assignments and photo archiving; works closely with the graphic designer on the look of each layout, coordinates with the printer and the mailer. Works closely with the chairman and officer of the Magazine Committee.
Serve as staff coordinator for the Magazine committee, responsible for the management of the committee budget, meeting planning and committee activities.
Administrative Support
Support the annual Chairman�s Conference by managing the RSVP process and creating communications relative to the meeting organization and preparation.
Help to manage the Annual Volunteer Survey by giving input to the questionnaire design and logical construction to meet the needs of the organization.
Perform various administrative support duties in support of Internal Comms and Human Resources, such as meeting/event scheduling and planning and preparation as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job may supervise one or more seasonal employees and/or interns leading up to and during Show.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor�s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or Sports Marketing
5 years previous experience in a communications role
Strong writing and editing skills required
Ability to work on a team and handle multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to handle high priority and fast-paced situations
Previous experience with photography/videography/photo editing, preferred
Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task is essential

During the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo� each year, the employee may be required to frequently walk to various places on the grounds of NRG Park. The employee may be required to lift and/or move 15 or more pounds and will be expected to work extended hours and weekends, especially during January � March of each year in preparation for and during the annual Show. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to dust, chemicals and animals at various times.
